Performs advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Transportation Engineer Specialist II: Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrenceEssential Duties:Transportation Engineer Specialist I:Prepares field notes.Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.Reviews work done by others for drafting and calculation errors.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer Specialist II all the above and: Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.Writes general notes, specifications and provisions.Performs advanced and specialized design work.Trains less experienced technicians.
