Virgin Galactic Software Quality Assurance Engineer II in Tustin, California

Virgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated Software Quality Assurance Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be able to perform the Responsibilities of the position and meet many of the Knowledge/Experience requirements. Responsibilities:

  • Develop process assurance plans and standards based on 14 CFR Part 450 regulations and other industry standards.

  • Ensure that project plans achieve development assurance level of the aircraft function, system, or item.

  • Ensure that project communications, coordination and sequencing, and progress monitoring mechanisms are defined and are followed.

  • Work with development teams to modify and correct design assurance processes to meet the objectives of the safety program. This task will involve auditing processes to ensure they are complete and correct.

  • Ensure that change control, operational, and maintenance procedures are defined and are followed.

  • Test witnessing for Software/Complex Electronic Hardware.

  • Perform process assurance audits for software/complex electronic hardware design projects.

  • Audit configuration, change management process, and problem report resolutions.

  • Work closely with engineering fields and liaise with software and complex electronics hardware specialists on best ways of meeting the objectives outlined in guidelines and standards issued by regulatory and standards organizations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field.

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in Software/Complex Electronic Hardware development life cycle (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for this role).

  • Experience with airborne systems development process assurance experience and the ability to develop the necessary plans and standards in accordance with SAE ARP 4754A, SAE ARP 4761, RTCA DO-178C, RTCA DO-254, and other applicable guidelines and standards.

  • Experience with RTCA/DO-178C and RTCA/DO-254.

  • Familiarity with avionics standards, e.g., ARINC 429, ARINC 825, ARINC 664,

  • Familiarity with system safety processes and how that integrates with engineering design and development processes like what is described in SAE ARP 4754A and 4761.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of FAA commercial space regulations preferred, CFR §400.

  • Project management skills

  • Flight operations experience within an aerospace organization

  • Previous OEM aircraft manufacturing or overhaul operations experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Must have above-average software: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $85,900.00–$131,050.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
