Phifer Incorporated Yarn Coating Line Tender in Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Job Summary: The Yarn Coating Line Tender position is required to run a production line in yarn coating consisting of all task related to the proper coating of fiberglass.  This position also includes performing quality inspections.  Management may assign additional duties as needed.

Essential Functions: Will conduct an initial and continuous quality walk through of work areas and perform hour by hour duties determined by reading and performing written instructions.  Will inspect, load and thread fiberglass (raw glass) by hand from creel around tension whorl through eyelets until it exits the creel and tie off glass by reading and performing written instructions.  Will thread glass ends by hand through vat eyelets in correct sequence through the dies to carrier bar by reading and performing written instructions.  Will carry glass ends by hand to winder area wrapping glass around nose of winders onto cores by reading and performing written instructions.  Will start packages using start up procedures by reading and performing written instructions.  Will maintain creel, clean dies and perform end of shift duties as documented.  Will monitor quality of coated fiberglass and take appropriate actions to correct issues.  

Non-Essential Functions: May perform operations and 5S tasks as needed.

Special Demands/Responsibilities: Must perform all tasks in a safe manner.  Must perform other departmental duties as assigned by supervisor.  Must handle and move material without damage.  Must be able to adapt to changing conditions.  Must be able to work overtime as scheduled or assigned.  

Supervision Received:  Will receive direct supervision from Team Leader or Shift Supervisor

Acceptable Education: Prefer a High School Diploma or GED.  Assessed at an 8th grade level or higher on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) exam through our Continuous Education and Development (CED) program or have an appropriate Workkeys score based on the job profile.  

Acceptable Training and Experience:  Prefer 6 months previous work experience in manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.  Prefer experience in yarn coating operations.  Will have or obtain certification to operate material handling equipment.  

Physical Demands:  Ability to push, pull, front carry, horizontal lift, floor to waist, and waist to crown lift using correct lifting procedures.  Ability to lift sedentary (occasionally), light (occasionally), medium (frequently) and heavy (frequently) materials correctly.  Ability to stand, walk bend and flex trunk constantly.  Ability to squat, kneel and crouch frequently.  Ability to work in hot (greater than 80 degrees) and very hot (greater than 90 degrees) weather conditions.  Must have 20/35 correctable vision in each eye.
