Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:

Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices to effectively implement OCS Quality Management system goals and initiatives. Develop, implement, and maintain systems and procedures required to successfully meet division and corporate goals and objectives. Ensure customer requirements are consistently met by maintaining OCS quality systems and platforms. Effectively take action when non-conformances are found. Ensure that documented practices meet the true interpretation of the OCS Quality Management System and TL 9000 requirements.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Support OCS Quality Systems by creating, maintaining, and executing the global Quality Systems strategy.

  • Conduct activities that directly support the maintenance of plant QMS certifications.

  • Support execution of Quarterly Division Quality Management System Reviews.

  • Facilitate efforts in understanding process capability and product quality architecture.

  • Facilitate root cause analysis on products and processes not meeting specified standards and requirements.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify and implement improvement opportunities and corrective/preventative actions.

  • Analyze critical Quality performance data to identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Maintain and execute Division internal audit program.

  • Perform audits of OCS plants and processes to determine compliance to OCS Quality Management System and TL 9000 requirements

  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.

  • Participate in the governance of Quality Management System processes.

  • Provide training to support implementation and execution of Division Quality platforms and processes.

  • Lead Quality roadmap improvement projects.

  • Participate in Performance Excellence (Six-Sigma) projects, assuring the effective use of different improvement methodologies (DMAIC, Lean, DESGN, PQA, etc.)

Travel Requirements: 10 - 25% travel

Required Education: 4-year Engineering Degree or Statistics degree preferred

Desired Years and Area of Experience: 1-3 years of experience in Manufacturing, Engineering and/or Quality

Required Skills:

  • Statistical competency; understands variability, sampling methods

  • Structured problem-solving skills to drive to root cause (e.g., KT)

  • Solid communication skills (written, verbal, presentation)

  • Solid project management skills

  • Familiarity with Quality Systems, audits, TL 9000 and ISO Certifications

  • Self-starter; ability to drive projects to closure

  • Lean and Six Sigma certifications preferred

  • Willingness to learn and develop
