Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

We are looking to hire a number of Mechanical Engineers to support a client program near the Portland Metro area. This team will be responsible for a series of projects and engineering work related to nonconforming materials and parts that are causing impact to form, fit and function of our client's products. There will be three primary lanes/objectives:

• Evaluate materials to drawings

• Use statistical sample to update drawings/update design requirements to acceptability

• Determine if there are alternative parts, or parts that could be converted to another process (i.e. machined rather than cast?)

For example, you may look at a 3D scan of a part and review deviations, look at the part, the assembly it goes into, the function of the part, and develop applied judgment to the analysis of suitability - some FEA, understand dimensions, material strengths, and so on.

Roles are likely to include elements of design, design review, analysis (FEA, static loads, kinetic energy, thermal considerations), supply chain and quality, among others. An overarching theme of deeper engineering analysis and problem solving exists within these roles.

Hard Skills

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, or higher

• Proficiency in SolidWorks design, and knowledge of GD&T or precision tolerances for design

• The role will require a high level and diversified set of skills within mechanical engineering; good prospects may need not have every single qualification, but should have some combination of several:

• FEA, thermal analysis, material analysis, tolerance analysis, RCCA/root cause and corrective action, DFM/DFA, nonconformance evaluation, quality or defect analysis, process development, experience with various manufacturing processes such as machining, casting, additive manufacturing, etc.

• 3+ years of experience in a complex engineering/design environment required; 5-10+ years highly preferred

• PE License a bonus, as are team leadership roles and abilities

Soft Skills

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to coordinate with customers, vendors, and internal engineering teams, and potentially lead teams and projects

• Project management skills

This is a full time consulting position working on a scope of work with Actalent

Work Site

This position requires onsite work at our client site, but may have occasional hybrid capabilities. Local talent to the PDX area is required, or someone who can relocate to PDX within 2-4 weeks.
