Position Summary: The Bridge Inspection Team Leader will be responsible for conducting NBIS inspections of in-service transportation structures such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and traffic device support structures. The Bridge Inspector Team Leader will receive general supervision from the Project Manager and will be required to perform the duties of an inspection team leader. Duties of the position include planning and scheduling inspections, performing inspections, and preparing inspection reports as per client requirements.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope
Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects
Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines
Prepare proposals as required
Attend meetings with clients
Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of team

Required Skills
Experience in serving as Team Leader performing in-service bridge safety inspections
Ability to work on multiple project assignments in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment
Experience in using Microsoft Office software including WORD and EXCEL
Ability to write, speak, and communicate clearly
Required Experience
5 years or more experience in performing in-service bridge safety inspections
Qualify as a Bridge Safety Inspection Team Leader as defined by the National Bridge Inspection Standards (23 CFR 650, Subpart C)
Proof of successfully completing a FHWA approved comprehensive bridge inspection safety course NHI 130055 and NHI 130053, or NHI 130056
Preferred Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
New Jersey EIT or New Jersey PE license
Bridge Inspection experiences preferred for NJDOT/NJTA
Bridge design experience is a plus
Knowledge of AASHTO Bridge Load Ratings including LARS and BrR is a plus
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the office and in the field as needed. Work conducted outside and may be in weather- heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions and on uneven terrain or surfaces. Candidate must have the ability to perform inspections while bending, kneeling, or standing, and lift or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds as needed. Work will require the operation of access equipment and performing inspections at heights requiring fall protection.
