The role

To ensure that targets are consistently met, and the plan is delivered in a timely manner. This is achieved through the management and leadership of your team, utilising a KPI and GMP metric system that focuses on Health and Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost whilst developing and installing a culture where Continuous Improvement is promoted. Be operationally responsible & accountable for your team and the manufacture of all products.

Main responsibilities

  • Ensure KPI targets are linked to and reported against the daily/weekly schedule.

  • Ensure any negative performance variances to target have been reviewed, actioned or escalated if necessary.

  • Ensure hourly/daily Gemba-walks/room support visits take place and are target-focussed.

  • Drive team to successful batch close & clean up. Ensuring batch documented completed RFT and in a timely manner.

  • Develop local ‘Room Action Plans’ to address shortfalls, or recovery plan to address why not achieving.

  • Develop & communicate area, team and individual objectives, goals & milestones.

  • Set target-driven room/team expectations at shift start.

  • Review Target v Actual with team at regular intervals throughout the shifts.

  • Develop and drive completion of short-term CI action plans for all activities in your department.

  • Ensure downtime is captured and reported. On identifying any trends, work with engineering to address.

  • Chair and effectively manage the shift/daily handover and mid-shift review meetings.

  • Define and drive completion of short, medium and long-term action plans to maintain the equipment and rooms to acceptable levels of GMP.

  • Ensure we are inspection ready at all times and maintain excellent level of housekeeping.

  • Use KPI performance data to coach/explain issues and formulate plans with room teams.

  • Ensure protocols are understood and followed if variance to manufacturing GMP procedure occurs.

  • Plan and drive execution update and maintenance of SOPs for the area.

  • Ensure Area CI Action Log updated & maintained for short/med/long term.

  • Develop Process Leads to ensure ‘ownership’ of role and individual development.

  • People Management including absence management, investigations, disciplinaries etc…

  • Proactively escalate any issue needing disciplinary action to the Production Manager.

  • Ensure a safe working environment at all times and escalate issue to management where appropriate.

  • Work closely with the internal customers to raise and complete any Quality or GMP documents in a timely manner.

  • Develop and maintain training and skill levels to ensure a fully flexible workforce ensuring training files are up to date.

  • Investigate issues such as Customer complaints in a timely manner and develop appropriate corrective action plan to prevent reoccurrence.

  • Ensure 100% objectives compliance for Process Lead & Team when setting mid & year-end reviews. Monitor & support the personal growth of your team via people performance management (good or poor) using 1-1s. PDR & PDP process.

  • Lead your team in a style that encourages trust, confidence, involvement and commitment to the achievement of agreed targets

  • Ensure each Process Lead is competent to carry out his/her role and is aware of his/her responsibilities and objectives

  • Develop a training plan for Process Leads and link with HR via Production Manager. Ensure training & development plan for teams and support Process Leads in their drive toward becoming ‘world class’ Leaders and future Team Leaders

  • Solicit 360º performance feedback from customers, suppliers, colleagues and reports. Manage any issues proactively through escalation or action plan procedures

  • Develop cost-effective Team Growth Plan and present to Production Manager

  • Ensure timely management of area skills matrix to maximise individual development and team flexibility. Implement departmental skills assessment with development plans & performance plans. Liaise with Training Department and develop plan to maximise individual development and team/room flexibility

Requirements

  • GMP Skill Level 1 is essential for this role

  • Science or Engineering background, ideally to degree level

  • Target driven – able to set and measure area, team and individual KPI’s

  • Demonstrable area management (or exceptional supervisory) experience in quality-based industry sector (preferably Pharma)

  • Experience of ‘Lean’ principles

  • Experience in pharmaceutical industry.

  • Excellent problem solving and analysis skills are required to ensure appropriate investigations with root cause analysis and contributory factors identified as part of the company’s Deviation (CAPA) system

  • Good people skills, honest, trustworthy, self-motivated and conscientious.
