Position: Vice President, Chief Operations Officer - Global Operations
Purpose
Leads and oversees operations globally ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed/delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
The Vice President & COO is a strategic advisor to the EVP, Global Chief Operations Officer and GO leadership team across all areas of the business, providing strategic direction and leadership to optimize the organization’s operational capabilities. The incumbent will lead best in class centralized support to all GO teams globally and ensure that business strategies and initiatives are successfully executed.
Accountabilities
Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Builds and nurtures strategic relationships with function executives and keeps cross-functional lines of communication with key stakeholders within Global Operations and at All Bank level.
Productivity Initiatives and Programs:
Responsible for the design and delivery of strategic, transformational Productivity initiatives and programs to realize significant cost savings and focus on realization of GO commitments towards improving efficiency of the bank.
Ensures transformational initiatives are aligned with the corporate and business strategy and enable the achievement of strategic priorities.
Strategic leadership to drive collaboration cross-functionally across the business, corporate function and key stakeholders to oversee the design, execution, and delivery, ongoing monitoring of productivity programs and initiatives.
Strategic initiatives & Programs:
Responsible for development and oversight of strategy development and execution in support of GO EVP mandate.
Leads and drives strategic change for Global Operations. Oversee the design, execution, delivery and ongoing monitoring of strategic programs and initiatives at both the GO and all Bank level.
Program Governance - ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Integrates strategy focused concepts and principles that can be used ongoing basis to execute, manage change and realize results.
Provides effective challenge in the design, delivery and execution phase of initiatives presented by key partners to optimize results.
Analytics and Performance:
Proactively drives data-based decision making across Operations globally by making analytical recommendations based on operational/financial/customer data and benchmarks.
Leverages advanced analytics techniques to improve customer experience and end-to-end business processes, such as predictive and prescriptive analytics.
Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
Creates an environment in which teams pursue effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, Code of Conduct and Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework.
Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.
Education & Experience
University degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering or related discipline - MBA preferred with minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in financial services operations.
Thorough knowledge of Global Operations and International Banking departments and major stakeholders
Extensive leadership experience overseeing large teams. Experience working with different cultures
Strategic vision and ability to become an enabler of change
Thought leader with demonstrated experience driving transformation for operations teams across multiple geographies
Thorough knowledge of EO, GO & IB departments and major stakeholders
Solid knowledge of project management techniques, M&A and Integration processes
Detailed understanding of the Bank’s strategy, business plan and objectives
In-depth understanding of the Bank’s operations and controls, including knowledge of organization and infrastructure
Strong quantitative and analytical skills to deal with complex operational issues, across functions
Strong public speaking skills with past experience in preparing and presenting to senior management
Experience managing multi-dimensional projects from concept to completion in cross cultural environments
Self-driven, results-oriented and an ability to work under pressure
Excellent relationship building and negotiation skills to build and maintain strong supportive relationships with stakeholders across the organization
Strong planning, time management and organizational skills; ability to multi-task across many projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
Spanish speaking is considered an asset
