What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the SVP, Investor Relations and Performance Measurement, the Sr. Director, Investor Relations will provide an outside-in perspective on market expectations as an input to definition of our long term strategic roadmap and financial objectives. In addition, you will ensure there is a feedback mechanism between the investor and market community, and internal partners to evaluate performance and iterate go forward plans on an ongoing basis. Further, you will lead internal research and analytics team to support IR activities through analyst and rating agency model replication/constructive challenge to drive improvements in our financial strength and valuation. You will also develop and maintain direct relationships with debt and equity investors/analysts.

This role will require sophisticated financial, risk, and strategic analyses to identify and evaluate strategic opportunities related to the management of the bank-wide targets and initiatives. The Senior Director will lead a team spanning the Financial Analyst, Financial Consultant, and Director accountable for providing value-add strategic analysis, as well as generating insights and authoritative recommendations for senior management and the Board of Directors.

How you’ll succeed

  • Strategic Targets and Messaging - Support the long-term strategic financial planning model, working in partnership with the Corporate Strategy, Treasury, Finance and Risk teams. In partnership with Corporate Strategy and Treasury, proactively identify opportunities to optimize resource deployment (people, technology and balance sheet usage) and strategies forecasted in the Strategic Financial Model. Define and communicate the CIBC investment thesis and key financial / non-financial targets (including ESG) to market participants. Update market on major strategic initiatives through consistent messaging, informed by assessment by establishing internal consistency/alignment prior to communication to market

  • Performance Evaluation/Market Intelligence - Act as an internal research analyst team by reviewing external analyst models/reports and constructively challenging conclusions which are counter to the externally stated strategy and objectives.

  • Relationship Management - In partnership with Corporate Strategy and CFO groups, provide a framework for financial/ decision support and analysis on the evaluation of enterprise-wide growth projects including strategic and corporate development activities integrated into the long-term financial model. Partner with CFO groups on Quarterly Competitive Benchmarking and Market Share Review. Increase tracking of non-financial performance indicators

  • Prepare Management to be Market Ready - Prepare for Investor meetings and calls by formulating key messages based on results and strategy and conduct prep meetings with ExCo prior to Investor calls and provide relevant market and contextual information. Review CIBC’s stock price/valuations relative to peer group and provide Market/Economic context for movements. Lead meetings with key internal partners to determine Key Messages/CIBC’s Investment Thesis. Lead quarterly reporting process by influencing best-in-class executive presentations, speeches and other materials

  • Proactive Stakeholder Feedback - Collaborate with IR to set an annual IR strategy/plan to meet our strategic objectives. Review shareholder holdings, identify targets and perform account-by-account analysis and specific plans. Conduct frequent post mortems to ensure continuous improvement; review peer IR decks to ensure that level of disclosure and topics covered is consistent with peer group and make changes as required. Develop and maintain external relationships with Investor Community (investors and analysts) across global equity and fixed income markets

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate at least 10+ years’ experience within the industry, with strong overall knowledge of financial institutions. You have strong knowledge of the financial services industry, and regulatory environment sufficient to interpret/analyze complex issues related to the management of the Balance Sheet and develop innovative solutions to the challenges affecting the bank. Knowledge of key Treasury functions such as regulatory capital, funding and liquidity management, and interest rate risk management will be an asset.
