What you’ll be doing

As a senior member of the team and reporting to the Director, HR Service Delivery, the Senior Consultant will be responsible for providing specialized knowledge and overseeing the delivery and management of HR business operational activities primarily in, but not limited to the area of global payroll across 10 countries. The Senior Consultant will be responsible for resolving complex issues in a professional and timely manner while engaging support from internal and external partners as appropriate. You will work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment and will initiate and lead projects, cyclical business processes and new initiatives to maximize efficiencies and improve the employee experience. While this is an individual contributor role, the incumbent will contribute to the strategic direction of the function and may provide informal leadership and guidance to other team members in the delivery of payroll and payroll/HR-related operational services and activities.

How you’ll succeed

  • Supplier management – Be responsible for providing supplier management governance and oversight of HR and payroll activities, projects, processes of outsourced HR operations, incident resolution management, end-to-end service delivery escalation resolution, and overseeing new service and change request management and implementation. Monitor CIBC’s outsourced service provider’s compliance with service standards for outsourced HR services and make recommendations for necessary corrective actions.

  • Subject matter expertise – Influence and contribute to the identification, analysis and/or perspective in the design, development, testing, implementation, communication, maintenance and assessment of policies and programs, ensuring alignment with overall CIBC and HR strategies. Provide subject matter expertise to the continuous innovation and improvement agenda for HR & Payroll processes and services to achieve consistency in operational excellence. Be accountable for and ensure that an assigned portfolio of HR services are effectively delivered, globally, across the CIBC group of companies.

  • HR service delivery – Be accountable as the primary payroll lead for assigned countries and support as required other team members in the delivery of HR / payroll services for our other jurisdictions.

  • Monitoring & oversight - Identify, design and implement monitoring and oversight activities including control testing of key processes and operational activities. In addition, ensure other team members are informed on the process and establish a schedule of responsibilities for the year.

  • Process documentation - Responsible for the identification, creation and maintenance of key processes and operational activities.

  • Collaboration/relationship management - Manage/participate in and execute jointly with our outsourced HR Partners, project planning in support of CIBC’s strategies and HR objectives. Establish and maintain effective partnerships and relationships with peers across the HR function, Infrastructure groups and Taxation to develop strategies and solutions to work through issues and deliver on future opportunities.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate your experience with a minimum 8+ years in a payroll and a shared service environment as well as a have a solid operational and functional understanding of HCM, Time & Absence, Leaves and Benefits.

  • You have practical knowledge in the delivery of payroll services and operations for Canada, USA, UK and / or other countries.

  • You’re a certified payroll professional . You have your payroll certification or you are working toward obtaining it.

  • You have solid knowledge of and experience working with Workday and you are proficient with MS Office products and possess advanced Excel skills.
