What you’ll be doing

As part of Rewards, Recognition & Performance within Human Resources, we support the design, oversight, and regulatory compliance of the CIBC’s Global pension and retirement savings programs. As a Senior Consultant, Canadian Retirement Programs, you will coordinate the integration of retirement policies and operational delivery of enterprise pension and group retirement savings programs. This role is accountable for contributing to, implementing and maintaining the existing pension framework that supports the organization’s immediate and long-term business goals. Priorities of this role include project managing all annual processes related to pension and retirement administration, pension committee and governance reporting, policy maintenance, records management, supplier governance frameworks and financial budgeting.

How you’ll succeed

  • Plan administration - Understanding of Defined Benefit Pension administration systems and a strong working knowledge and hands-on experience in providing pension administration services with a desire to expand your pension knowledge. Knowledge of multi-jurisdictional pension legislation, and payroll within pension administration, will be considered assets. Perform and review complex pension calculations accurately and efficiently, ensuring compliance with plan rules and regulations.

  • Governance – Support and sustain the governance framework taking into account the organization’s culture and values, legislative requirements and industry best practices. Analyze and interprets the policies ensuring the programs are aligned with organizational and Human Resource strategic direction and goals. Support the Senior Director on pension governance activities, through participation in pension management committee meetings, enterprise records management policies, co-ordination of regulatory filings for internal and external regulatory bodies, preparing materials for executive management and CIBC’s Management Resources & Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors.

  • Problem solving - Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting. Detail-oriented mindset with a high level of accuracy in calculations and documentation. Identify and resolve pension-related issues, discrepancies, and challenges in a proactive and timely manner.

  • Collaboration - Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including HR, finance, and legal departments, to support pension-related initiatives and projects. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively. Works closely with 3rd party pension administrator, HR Operational Effectiveness and external suppliers to ensure the efficient, accurate and timely pension service delivery and implementation of pension policy decisions. Liaise with external suppliers and legal counsel to provide regulatory updates to the Senior Director on the status of pension governance in the Canada and U.S. Liaise with specialized internal areas including CIBC Treasury, Finance and Risk Management in support of the pension governance activities, financial and risk reporting and compliance.

  • Communication - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders, to support the promotion of our Canadian retirement and savings programs (Sr. Leadership, Human Resources, and Employees). Assist with the education and communication of pension and group retirement savings plans for all Canadian employees and retiree groups in CIBC.
