Position Overview

Do you want to shape exceptional user experiences and lead impactful research programs helping define the future of design and build? As a Principal Experience Researcher at Autodesk, you will play an important role in our team, focusing on leading and delivering user-centered insights and strategy that inform and enhance our products and services contributing to a better world designed and made for all.

Reporting to the Research Manager for Building and Infrastructure Design (BID), you'll collaborate with a talented team of UX Designers, Product Managers, Engineers, and other important partners, specifically working with our teams building Autodesk Forma: our cloud-based software for early-stage planning, and design. You'll help us contribute to making connections and building innovative solutions in the AEC space with our global teams. The contributions you make will play a vital role in helping shape the development of next-generation software that can make designing and building more collaborative, efficient, and sustainable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead partnerships with product, data, and experience leaders to inform strategic product and design decisions

  • Consult with multiple company partners to develop mixed methods research programs aligning with primary goals that support the design and development lifecycle from strategic inception to post-release validation

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret complex data using advanced empirical and statistical methodologies

  • Synthesize and integrate data from diverse sources to find comprehensive, meaningful, and actionable insights

  • Lead cross-disciplinary teams through the process of ideating and developing strategies based on research, which includes future experience principles, user journeys, and implementation roadmaps

  • Partner with analytics teams to develop measurement strategies, measure impact, and drive data-informed optimization of initiatives and strategies

  • Create case studies and best practices that help raise the capacity and capabilities of the AEC research team in insights-driven ideation strategy, and optimization using actionably frameworks and templates

  • Effectively communicate and tell compelling stories using a variety of methods to maximize impact of research outcomes

  • Design and facilitate workshops for idea generation, strategic decision-making, and co-creating strategy

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional experience conducting and leading user experience research

  • Experience analyzing insights and summarizing complex data into clear and strategic insights

  • Experience building and leading partnerships with a variety of product development teams

  • An up-to-date toolkit of qualitative and quantitative research methods and tools, and the experience to determine the appropriate approach for complex situations

  • Experience applying human-centered design principles and practices

  • Extensive experience applying a holistic and logical approach to problem solving

  • University degree in a related field such as Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction or a related/equivalent field (or equivalent experience will be considered)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry

  • A comfort experimenting with, adopting, and teaching emerging research methodologies and approaches leveraging AI

  • Familiarity with using online diary platforms and co-creation techniques

  • Experience working with data scientists to combine behavioral and attitudinal insights into a holistic narrative

  • Experience with mixed or multi-method research approaches

  • Experience facilitating workshops and working groups with extended team members and customers

  • Experience in identifying market opportunities that align research insights with strategic priorities and potential market impacts
