Canadian Tire Principal Architect in Toronto, Ontario

What you'll do

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Principal Architect in Legacy Modernization program to drive the transformation of our legacy systems into modern, efficient, and scalable solutions. This position will report to the AVP, Architecture of Legacy Modernization. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing architecture solutions to support legacy modernization initiatives across the organization. This role requires a strong leader with technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build and mentor teams.

As a strong leader, you will lead a team of skilled architects and collaborate with cross functional teams to design and implement strategies for the modernization of our legacy applications. You will be expected to create a culture of trust, respect, and open communication, where team members feel empowered to take ownership and drive their growth. You will provide guidance and support to the team, encouraging innovation, and embracing change to achieve success. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building and managing high-performing teams, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a passion for driving growth and success.

In this role, you will:

  • Define and implement architectural strategies and standards to support legacy modernization initiatives.

  • Analyze existing legacy systems to identify opportunities for modernization, improvements, and potential risks.

  • Ensure solutions are in compliance with our enterprise standards

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to project teams, ensuring the development of high-quality solutions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and design modernization roadmaps and execute plans to deliver them.

  • Develop and maintain architecture artifacts, including reference architectures, design patterns, and solution blueprints.

  • Drive the adoption of modern technology stacks and practices, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives.

  • Lead the evaluation and selection of tools and technologies to support modernization initiatives.

  • Identify and manage technical risks and issues, working closely with project teams to resolve them.

  • Build and mentor a high-performing architecture team, providing guidance and support to help team members grow and develop in their roles.

  • Work closely with various Principal Architects and Technology Leads across IT to ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

  • Manage stakeholders, building and maintaining strong relationships to ensure successful project delivery.

  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring that architecture strategies and standards are up-to-date.

  • Provide directions to testing teams to define testing strategies to ensure the quality and reliability of modernized systems.

What you bring

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 7+ years IT experience in progressive development and design related positions with 4+ years experience working in an architect/system design role.

  • Strong understanding of modern software architecture patterns, best practices, and principles.

  • Experience with modern stacks including cloud, data pipelines, microservices, containers, CI/CD

  • Experience interpreting and applying security best practices to create, harden and secure infrastructure and applications.

  • Demonstrated ability to think and communicate in both abstract and concrete concepts, and to do so appropriately for the audience.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in developing and implementing modernization roadmaps and executing plans to deliver them.

  • Strong experience in evaluating and selecting tools and technologies to support modernization initiatives.

  • Experience in managing technical risks and issues.

  • Ability to build and mentor a high-performing architecture team.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with various IT and Business leadership teams.

  • Ability to manage stakeholders and build and maintain strong relationships.

  • Experience in the Supply Chain / Retail industry is an asset.

  • Experience building and supporting Legacy Modernization initiatives in an asset.
