Occupational Therapist - School - at Boomerang Health

About Boomerang Health

Boomerang Health, powered by SickKids, is a multidisciplinary paediatric clinic, independent but wholly owned by The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). SickKids opened Boomerang Health in April 2013, a 10,000 sq. ft. healthcare centre in Vaughan, to provide the York Region community and beyond, with greater access to community-based services for children and adolescents. Job Summary

  • Work will be a mix of in-person at the clinic on weekends and school-based care during the week

  • This position requires availability during school hours within the week, as well as one weekend day

  • Provides comprehensive occupational therapy assessments and intervention to children with a variety of occupational performance issues (OPIs)

  • Follows evidence-based approaches to assessment and treatment

  • Provides education and feedback to families

  • Communicates effectively and maintains relationships with referring physicians, healthcare providers and other relevant community stakeholders

  • Manages a varied caseload and meets required timelines

  • Maintains complete and accurate medical records using an electronic (computerized) system

  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Occupational Therapy, with experience in paediatric assessment and treatment

  • Registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO)

Experience/Skills

  • A minimum of three years of experience is preferred

  • Strong proficiency in assessment and evidence-based occupational therapy interventions with children. Experience treating the following areas is an asset:

  • Feeding

  • Fine motor

  • Sensory processing

  • Self-regulation

  • Motor planning

  • Experience providing care virtually

  • Proven ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Utilizes critical thinking and problem solving skills

  • Efficient time management and organizational skills are required

  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills in English

  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in French is an asset
