Citigroup Head of Payments - Canada in Toronto, Ontario

Job Description

The Head of Payments - Canada will be responsible for driving the build out and execution of our strategy across the entire spectrum of Payment Products including ACH, Wires, Cross Border Payments, Instant Payments and Commercial Cards. This role will report to the North America Payments Head and be part of the leadership team for Citi’s North America Payments business. This person will need to have an in-depth understanding of the Canadian Payments landscape and how product proposition contributes to achieving the objectives of the North America Payments organization and more specifically the impact to the Canadian franchise. The Canada cash management business is entering a transformative period highlighted by an aggressive industry payments modernization plan, ongoing application rationalization, and a rapid deployment of value-added products and services. This role will lead efforts to achieve smooth technology transformations that augment stability and speed innovation to market, commercialize leading edge global products in Canada, effectively manage risks, and develop the strength of the team. This role will also require a good understanding of the industry, direct competitors' products and services, necessary to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business. The role requires thorough understanding of strategic direction of the function within the relevant part of the business, combined with a solid conceptual/practical grounding in both the function and/or area of expertise and related subject areas. Accountable for end results, budgeting, planning, risk management, policy formulation and driving future strategic initiatives. Full management responsibility, including P&L management, performance evaluation, development plans and opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • This a senior role which is part of the North AmericaPayments Team, with ownership of product strategy, product positioning, business management, sales enablement, and partnership/alliance development and management.

  • This person will be responsible fordriving the alpha growth strategy and drive innovation to continue to grow market share in the region.

  • Lead strategic product roadmaps, product development, program launches, and program marketing to gain maximum benefit from each product, as well as survey and analyze competitive industry landscapes to identify relative trends, threats, and opportunities.

  • Drive client value propositions, positioning, segmentation, pricing, targeting, channel strategies, and competitive differentiation to achieve preferred status as a partner to Citi clients.

  • This position will have significant senior-level exposure and play a leading role in managing the current portfolio and product set, determining long-term strategy as well as the allocation of investment dollars to execute the strategy both globally and within cluster.

  • Oversee all aspects of product life cycle management including market demands, technology trends, and the competitive field as well as drive innovation by working with external partners/alliances to develop products.

  • Monitor key product measures, identify actions necessary and lead corrective actions.

  • As the product expert, provide leadership and expertise to clients, prospects and internal partners, support external thought leadership activities in the payments space.

  • Manage acquisition targets, product financial performance, revenue performance, and expense management goals as well as oversee identification and execution of opportunities and gaps business plans.

  • Own the Canada product roadmap. Ensure that the product programs reflect the local market needs of Citi’s global clients operating in Canada in addition to alignment with Citi’s regional and global strategies as well as Citi’s policies and local regulations.

  • Manage development and market launch of all new and enhanced products through the bank’s product approval processes and provide training, sales collateral and sales support for coverage and sales.

  • With respect to Product development and infrastructure changes, the role has overall responsibilities for projects, including oversight of business requirements, collaboration and confirmation of functional requirements documents, satisfaction of Citi's governance criteria, compliance with AML and business risk requirements, review and approval of test plans and sign-off on production launch.

  • P&L Management (reporting and analyzing financials to ensure goals are being met).

  • Management will look to this person to be an evangelist for the product both internally and to the marketplace.

  • The successful candidate must be both a leader and a team player, working with regional and global Product teams, Product Sales and Client Executives.

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citi, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

  • Manage business risk & compliance across suite of payments products, including completion of all audits, legal, tax risk, vendor governance, and compliance and regulatory reporting, including management control assessments and corrective action plan follow ups.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience, including 8-10+ years' managerial experience

  • Knowledge of industry players and ecosystem, as well as industry networks preferred

  • The incumbent will work closely with the global and cluster product teams to set and track annual spend and revenue targets, and will be expected to support client discussions to help drive wins, program growth and new deal ramp

  • Experience managing across multi-function or global business

  • Experience managing in a large, complex and matrixed organization

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the industry, banking, and investment products

  • Working knowledge of different systems, theories, and practices relevant to a function

  • Practical experience of multiple business cycles

  • Knowledge of industry and competitor products/services

  • Knowledge of strategic direction of the business and functions across clusters combined with solid conceptual/practical grounding in function and/or area of expertise

  • Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication

  • Demonstrated internal and external negotiation skills

  • Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
