This position is moving to OPG Corporate Headquarters: In Summer 2025, OPG will officially welcome employees to our new Corporate Headquarters located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, Ontario. This new space will enable teamwork, collaboration and innovation that will help us to achieve our mission to electrify life in one generation . This position will be temporarily based in Toronto , ONuntil the move to Headquarters in the Summer of 2025.

JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Director Business Planning & Reporting.

Reporting to the VP Business Planning and Reporting, the Director Business Planning & Reporting will support in planning and controlling financial expenditures by carrying out economic studies, preparing consolidated budgets and business plans, and providing financial analysis/review/ assessment to the CFO and President on business planning, and budgets, investment proposals and strategic issues/initiatives.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide business and project assessment capability, complete assessments of competing alternatives and recommend options which maximize value creation.

  • Ensure controls and processes are in place for accurate and efficient planning and performance reporting.

  • Elevate the function to be accountable to set standards and practices to be used throughout a process and be accountable to evaluate and redirect others in the organization if standards and expectations are not met.

  • Responsible for external benchmarking processes on key business unit benchmark metrics used by senior executives to set business planning targets. Establish processes to facilitate benchmarking of OPG performance.

  • Ensure the creation of accurate and reasonable performance targets and plans given business strategies being undertaken, benchmarking and recent operational history.

  • Recommend a framework for the allocation and management of OPG's resources when required.

  • Ensure integration of key elements of the corporate strategy into the business planning process in determining the key result areas, indicators, and measures for use in performance target setting.

  • Ensure co-ordination and assessment of materials for use in management decision making forums. This includes co-ordinating planning assumptions, the impacts of corporate initiatives, and identification of emerging issues for use in setting corporate targets.

  • Provide instructions and guidelines for issue to organizational units to enable preparation of business unit plans.

  • Oversee, facilitate, lead, own, accountable for 'communication of key elements of the business planning process to OPG's Board, internal and external stakeholders, including preparation of OPG's corporate business plan documentation and other financial planning materials.

  • Oversee, facilitate, lead, own, accountable for ' OPG's OEB regulatory processes through preparation of business plans, provision of financial evidence, and by acting as a witness, as required, in rate hearings.

  • Develop and implement key corporate financial initiatives, on an integrated basis that encompasses planning processes, cost allocations, return on assets, etc.

  • Manage performance reporting for all Corporate and Business Units to meet internal and external reporting requirements

  • Determine the performance reporting requirements of Corporate and the Business Units, in conjunction with the line organization, executive management and the Board of Directors

  • Develop Performance Reporting standards and processes to facilitate consistent performance monitoring, reporting, assessment and redirection, including ownership and administration of all performance management system solutions.

  • Make recommendations related to the re-engineering of corporate financial management processes: Business planning; Performance Reporting

  • Challenge OPG leadership team to ensure that reasonable business alternatives have been reviewed or considered when making decisions as they relate to strategies, investments, operational decisions, etc.

  • Track and take appropriate corrective action in response to identified business plan issues that impact the organization.

  • Facilitate the continuing cultural change within the Company to instill more business and financial acumen into managers across the business. Includes the introduction of progressive processes (such top-down gap-based business planning) and the delivery of a new and more efficient Business Planning process.

  • Liaise with external parties on Business Unit metrics and related matters

  • Ensure the development & maintenance of an in-depth knowledge of industry and industry trends as it relates to financial forecasting.

  • Ensure the development, consolidation and co-ordination of business unit plan assessments to ensure their consistency with corporate strategic direction.

  • Provide impacts of changes in Corporate-level planning assumptions (e.g. financing rates, sales, payroll burden, accounting changes) to support development of Corporate-level financial targets.

  • Monitor the financial performance of the Corporation and provide early warning signals of material risk.

  • Develop long-term financial data consistent with the business plan.

  • Participate in studies of major corporate significance to provide Corporate Finance input.

  • Provide update cash flow information to Treasury on a regular basis

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration (or a related field);

  • CPA, or Master’s degree or MBA is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A seasoned financial professional with a robust background in economic studies, budgeting, and financial analysis.

  • Demonstrated experience in providing strategic financial insights to senior executives and possess a keen ability to benchmark and assess business performance.

  • Expertise in developing and implementing corporate financial initiatives and your ability to drive continuous improvement in planning processes are crucial.

  • A proactive leader and agent of change, adept at structuring integrated business planning and performance management processes that align with corporate strategies.

  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, you excel in coordinating across organizational units and external stakeholders, ensuring accurate and efficient planning, performance reporting, and strategic decision-making.
