Overview

In collaboration with a writing partner, the Creative Director (Art Direction) directs the best creative vision for the business and keeps it on strategy. They work with account leaders in strategic thinking to define project assignments, develop and execute creative solutions and shape all phases of creative development. May serve as the creative lead on accounts and projects of significant scale, complexity or importance while guiding other Creative team members and collaborating with the rest of the project team. Creative leadership areas include conceptual development, establishment of visual design, and broad oversight of the production process and technical implementation. Manages the creative standards and inspires others to reach them.

Reporting Relationships:

This role reports to the Executive Creative Director

Responsibilities

  • Sets and maintains the creative direction and goals for specific projects ensuring they fit the client, the brand and the business objectives. Actively develops working relationship with clients to provide clear, up-front direction on brand and strategy.

  • Fiscally responsible for job budgets, meeting deadlines, and efficient utilization of all team members.

  • Coaches, manages and develops team members; assigns projects to achieve workload balance, challenge for each team member’s skill level and development as professionals. Directs and prioritizes projects and new business opportunities, ensuring they are the best demonstration of the agency’s capabilities.

  • Provides regular (formal and informal) feedback to Creative team members in order to help grow their creative sensibilities and progress in their craft.

Qualifications

  • Ten or more years’ progressively more responsible team leadership and project management experience necessary to lead creative efforts and develop same in others, with specific experience in interactive, sales promotion or direct.

  • Functional knowledge of a broad array of graphic design/technical tools, marketing and communication strategies to facilitate broad range of client solutions.

  • A very high level communication skill necessary in order to manage teams, facilitate brainstorm sessions, broaden others’ ability to best utilize creative talents, and to present concepts and rationale for art direction decisions to both team and clients.

  • Analytical skills necessary to evaluate creative approach, and seek unexpected, original and innovative ideas.
