What You'll Be Doing
You’ll be joining CIBC’s Enterprise Data & Technology Operations Team as a Consultant, Database Management to Manage, Secure and Optimize our organization’s data systems.
The role is responsible for developing physical database models for database management systems, providing subject matter expertise in production and non-production databases for data development and maintenance. The role works on complex issues involving one or more technical areas, mentoring employees in database development and ensuring consistency and integration with existing database infrastructure. The role troubleshoots complex issues for all levels, analyzing data from various sources related to database structure and application to develop solutions that address problems or performance improvements. The role exercises independent judgement and decision making within ownership of projects, extracting and analyzing data requirements from information, and generating logical data models that represent business data needs and business rules.

How You'll Succeed
Design and Development – Design, install, configure and maintain reliable database systems ( Oracle/ Oracle Appliance – Exadata) to support business applications and data processing functions.
Performance Tuning – Monitor database performance and conduct tuning to ensure efficient data retrieval, minimizing latency and optimizing resources.
Security and Compliance - Work closely with our Information Security partners to build and regularly update the roadmap related to Data Security domain. This includes working closely with Data Governance, Enterprise Architecture and other stakeholders to deliver and mature the data security services and capabilities that can be leveraged across the enterprise for protecting the bank's assets and digital crown jewels.
Data Integrity and Availability - Maintain database backup, recovery and high availability strategies. Regularly test recovery processes and ensure failover mechanisms are in place.
User Access Control : Setup and monitor user roles, permissions and access to ensure security while providing necessary access to users.
Database Design and Development : Work closely with developers and IT teams to design database schemas and support application development needs.
Automation and Scripting : Automate routine database administration tasks using scripts or tools to improve efficiency.
Monitoring and Alerting : Setup monitoring tools to detect issues before they impact operations and proactively troubleshoot any problems.
Documentation : Maintain documentation of database configurations, processes, security measures and system changes.
Capacity Planning : Analyze database storage, memory, and CPU usage patterns to forecast future capacity needs.
Support and Troubleshooting : Provide support and guidance to other IT team members regarding database -related issues.
Who You Are
You demonstrate experience in the following areas:
At least 3 years of experience in Oracle database administration.
Professional certifications from Oracle, Microsoft and others are also valuable.
Effective database administrators must have attention to detail, a strong customer-service orientation and the ability to work as a team.
Strong SQL skills, including query optimization and troubleshooting.
Experience with database tuning, indexing and partitioning.
Knowledge of database backup and recovery processes.
Nice to have – Experience with cloud database management (Azure SQL, AWS, etc.) is a plus
