Job Description:

Reporting to the VP, Financial Crimes Risk Management (FCRM), Data and Model Management, we are looking for an accomplished leader to join our team as the Assistant Vice President (AVP), FCRM, AI & Advanced Analytics Management (CAN & EAP). Supports the continuous enhancements of FCRM-owned models including Transaction Monitoring and Customer Risk Rating models, by exploring and introducing advanced analytics and technologies including machine learning and artificial intelligence and advising FCRM leadership on the roadmap and strategy based on industry best practices right sized and right timed for TD.

Individual Role Accountabilities and Decision Authorities / Breadth, Depth & Scope:

  • Investigate, develop and facilitate adoption of advanced analytics, AI, machine learning, NLP, and various modelling tooling and solutions to support model and data management for FCRM

  • Manage advances in AI and machines learning within data and model management function to increase effectiveness of models and create efficiencies

  • Drive risk-based decisioning and modeling innovations using advanced AI and machine learning solutions

  • Provides people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required

  • Maintain a robust understanding of industry (insights/foresights) to deliver AI/Machine Learning capability across modelling and data teams

  • Ensure an adherence to the Bank’s risk culture

  • Hire, develop and retain top talent through the enablement of an inclusive environment

Shared Responsibilities / Decision Authorities

  • Collaborates and supports AVP, Model Management and AVP, Data Governance on the optimal implementation of advanced solutions while adhering to key regulatory expectations

  • Collaborates with Enterprise Data and Analytics and Layer 6 teams regarding trends and developments in data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning

  • As a key member of the leadership team collaborates with business partners to find appropriate solutions to risk measurement and assessment challenges to ensure an appropriate balance between complexity of models and a transparent link between risk drivers and outputs

  • Marrying AI/Machine Learning and other advanced analytics solutions to particular business problems.

  • Manage function within parameters of financial plan

  • Remains within TD risk appetite

Capabilities Required

  • Subject Matter Expert in data, machine learning and artificial intelligence

  • Possesses and demonstrates expertise in AML/ATF processes and programs

  • Strategic thinker and clear communicator

  • Skilled leader, inspires and operates through influence,

  • Delivers on objectives, focuses on what matters and can work across silos to build effective working relationships

  • Clear, concise communicator – able to explain complex concepts to diverse stakeholders and educate on technical ideas and methodologies to groups and individuals with and without technical expertise in these areas

  • Ability to drive large-scale, complex projects

  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills

  • Strong financial and business acumen

  • Strategic thinking, balanced by operational pragmatism

Skills, Education & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree required, advanced technical degree including Master or PhD in a quantitative discipline (e.g. economics, statistics, mathematics, engineering or operations research) preferred

  • 15+ years of experience in financial modelling, data science or other relevant field

  • Extensive experience and advanced expertise in statistics, numerical methods, modeling tools, optimization, and operations within the financial services sector

  • Knowledge of financial service products and risk characteristics

  • Excellent proven management and leadership skills required to direct a group of quantitative analysts in diverse fields and to ensure unit plans and objectives are achieved

  • Excellent communication skills: ability to communicate and educate on technical and complex ideas and methodologies to groups and individuals with and without technical expertise in these areas

  • Experience presenting to Senior Executives, Board members, regulators and other external entities/stakeholders

  • Demonstrated experience operating in a complex, matrix environment

  • Organizational and time-management skills

  • Ability to deliver day to day commitments and complex projects on time and within budget
