The Associate Director, Real World Evidence Methods is an RWE leader role within the Evidence Generation Centre at Janssen Canada. This dynamic leader will directly support the Director, Evidence Generation Centre in shaping Janssen’s Evidence Generation strategy.

This role will lead the development of robust RWE solutions working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

This role will lead partnerships with local, regional & global teams and with external vendors to ensure new ways of accessing and analyzing data. The Associate Director - Real World Evidence Methods will work internally across functions to provide scientific expertise in shaping and developing RWE solutions across therapeutic areas of interest to Janssen. This role is pivotal in setting scientific standards for RWE research at Janssen Canada

This role will involve being externally focused for understanding RWE trends and innovative methodologies of observational research and potential application of these methodologies to Janssen RWE projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead to shape Janssen’s Real World Evidence (RWE) strategy utilizing insights about healthcare trends, data ecosystems and innovative RWE study methods and design.

  • Co-lead to create RWE solutions by working in close collaboration across the organization and providing epidemiology expertise with the goal of filling evidence gaps as identified in the Integrated Evidence Generation Plan (IEGP) with robust RWE solutions.

  • Lead the development of data strategies for the use of various external data sources working closely with the Lead of Strategic Alliances, Operations and therapeutic area and business unit heads (including Market Access and Regulatory Affairs).

  • Act as expert for study design, methodology and translating study designs into robust analyses plans for internal integrated evidence teams.

  • Expert input in protocols as a reviewer on the Americas Method Review Board (AMRB) and provide methodological RWE expertise to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Lead partnership with J&J global data science, epidemiology, Real World Value and Excellence organizations and locally with Data & Analytics and Patient Value Innovation Centres to ensure high RWE standards and best practice sharing.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a PhD in Pharmacoepidemiology, Data science or Outcomes research or other related field is required.

  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry (e.g. R&D, medical affairs, policy, market access, RWE etc.) or in a healthcare environment (e.g. hospital, government, healthcare technology etc.) is required. More than 10 years experience is a plus.

  • Experience successfully shaping and delivering RWE strategies (databases, prospective observational studies, drug safety or other) from concept to disseminating the results to regulator/payer dossiers and publications is required.

  • Experience in managing outcomes research studies applying health economics, patient-reported outcomes, retrospective data analyses, epidemiology and/or health services research is required.

  • Strong publication record in peer reviewed journal or leader in RWE field an asset.

  • Excellent understanding of pharma industry trends and best practices, specifically related to epidemiology methods and market access environment is preferred.

  • Experience across multiple research settings (e.g., pharmaceutical, academia, and/or consulting) and various types of data (e.g., administrative claims, electronic health/medical record, hospital billing) is preferred.

  • This position is located in Toronto, Canada and follows a flex/hybrid schedule of three days in the office and two days remotely per week. Less than approximately 10% travel (national or international) is anticipated.
