Applied Materials Electrical Design Engineer in Toronto, Canada

As an Electrical Designer in the Applied Materials Photonics Platform Business, you will be working on highly technical and challenging experimental prototypes, evaluation kits, and reference designs to support advanced near eye display modules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop the necessary designs to support driving smart glasses displays

  • Lead the system architecture and definition (some based on Qualcomm reference designs)

  • Define the requirements, design, and verification specifications

  • Execute electrical/system level verification and validation to catch design issues early

  • Write software drivers and make modifications to firmware

  • Create test scripts (python) to complete module testing

  • Schematic entry, HDI PCB layout guidance, as well as complex flex design

  • Be comfortable utilizing lab equipment for circuit verification

  • Perform SI/PI analysis on high speed interfaces

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent

  • Experience in HW development in all design phases of wearable consumer product

  • Ability to create or define new parts for schematic libraries, generate schematics, guide PDB HDI design as well as complex flex design and integration

  • Strong expertise in Qualcomm platform based designs

  • Experience in high speed, analog, and digital circuit debug

  • Experience in writing or modification of embedded software platform device drivers

  • Experience in test script development (Python)

  • Proven competence in working cross-functionally to deliver cutting edge small form factor based solutions

Preferred Experience

  • Strong fundamental experience of embedded hardware design in complex small form factors

  • Expertise in the areas of analog/digital design spanning SOC, PMU, Sensors, high speed display interfaces, display drivers, low power design, USB, and lithium battery

  • Experience in leading and contributing to technical cross-functional team design discussions

  • Hands-on experience in schematic capture, PCB layout, SI, PDN, etc. using standard industry tools such as Cadence

  • Hands-on experience in prototype bring-up

  • Development of new technology solutions as well as influencing future product roadmaps while interfacing closely with key vendors and suppliers

  • 7 years minimum experience in embedded circuit design, analysis, verification, and validation.
