APPLY NOW TO START YOUR CAREER AS A

POLICE OFFICER IN TRAINING/CADET

The Tooele City Police Department is accepting applications from individuals who desire to work as a police officer but are not yet certified. If you are already a POST LEO graduate apply under our Police Officer job announcement.

As a Police Cadet, your job assignment will be to attend the Utah Police Academy. You will receive full benefits from day one and a trainee wage of $25.25/hour. Upon graduation, you'll be promoted to Police Officer I, $29.52/hour, enter our Field Training Program (FTO), and work alongside our specially trained Field Training Officers (FTOs) as you learn how to safely and competently serve in your new official capacity.

As part of the selection process, you must complete a 1.5 mile run in 16:11 (normally completed outside); 30 seconds of planking; 14 push-ups (no timing requirement); and 14.5-inch vertical jump. POST graduation standards are higher and you must be able to meet their standards to graduate from the academy.

We recognize you have a choice of where to serve in the competitive labor market. Here's why it's a great idea to join us:

  • You'll work for an agency with strong support for law enforcement from the Mayor on down;
  • You will be well equipped and trained;
  • Our officers work in a new police station where every step in the design and construction process has considered functionality and safety. The address is 50 N. Garden Street, so our HR office has officially nicknamed our new location as "Tooele Five-O;"
  • Tooele City covers a substantial portion of your retirement benefits, including costs that other agencies might require officers to pay themselves;
  • We offer a student loan repayment program to help you pay off student loan debt from your college course work or debt you incurred to attend POST;
  • Most importantly, it's about the people! Ask our officers, there is just something special about the men and women you work with.

If this doesn't entice you, here's a few more reasons:

  • Tooele City was recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of America's top ten 'Friendliest Cities' and by AARP's Livability Index for the degree to which we embrace diversity and offer opportunities to residents of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Located just 30 miles west of Salt Lake City, we are nestled at the base of the beautiful Oquirrh Mountain range. Our community provides quick access to the metropolitan area and a rural, hometown feel.

Our 40 police officers service a population of 35,000 and a geographic area of 24 square miles.

Described as a medium-size organization, officers responded to approximately 15,000 calls last year representing diversity in the requests for police services. We are a busy department.

Our organization sets a standard of unwavering integrity and ethical conduct. We value the camaraderie and trust that exists among fellow officers, the weight placed on family and work balance, and a culture that emphasizes officer safety at the forefront of our actions. Police officers are well trained, well equipped, and highly motivated to relentlessly pursue crime while honoring the Constitutional rights of our citizens.
