We are looking for a Senior Database Consultant in Japan who can work with Customers to define, design, and deliver EnterpriseDB Postgres technical solutions and consultative advisory services. The EDB Senior Database Consultant has a passion for Customer Success and supports the EDB Professional Services business development efforts as well as drives and delivers world class Postgres solutions to our Customers. From a business development perspective, the EDB Senior Database Consultant works with our Customers to understand their business objectives and drivers, translates Customer’s business needs into technical requirements, defines the solution requirements and scopes implementation effort, and contributes content to the Professional Services Engagement Lead for input into Proposals and SOWs. When the contract closes, our EDB Senior Database Consultant will deliver the Postgres solution based on the business, technical, and contractual requirements for each Customer with the goal to satisfy and exceed our Customer’s expectations.

The ideal candidate is energetic and passionate about Postgres, Data, and AI, and is ready to embark on a very exciting journey of transformation with EDB. This person is highly driven, works well both independently and within teams, has strong people and communication skills in both Japanese and English languages, has deep technical experiences of deploying and managing Postgres databases, and enjoys leading, guiding, and enabling Customers forming trusted advisor relationships.

What your impact will be:

  • Deliver in-depth knowledge and deep hands on experience defining, designing, configuring, deploying, and operating Postgres and EDB Postgres Solutions to be able to guide, prescribe, deliver, and lead successful Customer engagements.

  • Evaluate customer deployments of Postgres and Postgres associated tools to identify improvements and define recommendations on how Customers can optimize their Postgres environments.

  • Implement and guide Customers in Postgres backup strategies, upgrades and patching.

  • Develop and/or guide customers in the development of custom Postgres-based applications with tools and programming languages like C, C++, PHP, Python, Java and/or Ruby.

  • Learn how to perform database Migrations from Oracle, SQL Server, and / or MySQL to PostgreSQL and EDB Postgres Advanced Server Software.

  • Perform performance tuning baseline measurements and tuning tasks for existing Postgres database deployments.

  • Work with Customers to upgrade their Postgres applications to the latest version of Postgres and configure and update their applications to take advantage of new features.

  • Leverage Postgres open source tooling to configure: high availability, backup and failover, connection pooling, and monitoring during Customer deployment.

  • Understand Customer’s database security requirements and configure as required.

  • Learn how to use, configure, and deploy EDB software and tooling.

  • Learn how to configure EDB TPA Exec to configure and deploy Postgres for High Availability leveraging EnterpriseDB Failover Manager (EFM), Backup and Restore capabilities leveraging Barman, Monitoring functionality leveraging Postgres Enterprise Manager (PEM), and Connection pooler configuration leveraging PG Bouncer.

  • Complete EDB software and tools learning paths and obtain certification within EBD for EDB software and tooling.

  • Deliver Coaching, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to Customers through an engagement.

  • Work with EDB Sales teams and our Customers to understand Customer’s business objectives and drivers and translate Customer’s business needs into technical requirements.

  • Lead discussions with the Customer to identify the Customer’s solution requirements and define the target Postgres solution with the Customer.

  • Scope Postgres implementation efforts and contribute content to the Professional Services Engagement Lead for input into Proposals and SOWs.

  • Deliver high quality Customer Postgres solutions and advisory services based on the business, technical, and contractual requirements for each Customer.

  • Focus on Customer success in all tasks performed, whether it’s an internal Customer or an external Customer.

  • Document all work clearly and concisely in runbooks and customer communications throughout the project.

  • Mentor and coach junior members of the team to help our team grow and scale.

  • Lead and work on internal projects within the Customer Experience team.

  • Embrace challenges to learn Data & AI tooling, techniques, and solutions as needed.

What you'll bring:

  • 9+ years experience working for a professional consulting organization or similar field

  • Have a Bachelor or Masters of Science in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or equivalent experience

  • At least 7 years of DBA level experience for PostgreSQL and / or Oracle

  • Possess deep knowledge of PostgreSQL and PostgreSQL tool and techniques

  • Experienced in Postgres performance tuning, query optimization, and index tuning and best practices.

  • Know how to back up solutions with tools such as pg base backup, pgBackRest, WAL-G and etc.

  • Be well-versed in SQL

  • May include learning how to train on EDB predefined training courses to external customers

  • Have demonstrable experience and knowledge on database design and building applications for PostgreSQL, Oracle, or other databases

  • Possess solid experience on general system administration and performance skills for Linux, (Ubuntu, Centos, Redhat, or Debian), including facility with scripting

  • Be able to analyze and troubleshoot, identify and apply fixes for known errors, and think outside of the box to resolve complex Postgres database issues and challenges.

  • Be an enthusiastic learner and embrace new technologies, products, and asks of you in this role

  • Kubernetes experience and knowledge is a plus.

  • Working knowledge of MS Windows.

  • Have strong time management skills, and the ability to balance multiple coincident demands.

  • Fluent in both Japanese and English written and verbal communication.
