Google Strategic Negotiator, Data Center Energy in Tokyo, Japan

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technology, Science, Law, Policy, Economics, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 6 years of experience negotiating and structuring agreements or leading business development.

  • Experience in financial modeling of energy projects and markets, utility, and power sector.

  • Experience in energy markets, power purchase agreement structures, or renewable energy.

Preferred qualifications:

  • MBA, or equivalent experience in policy, law, economics, business, technology, or science.

  • Experience in finance, consulting, or in-house corporate development with similar responsibilities.

  • Knowledge of energy markets, rates, agreement structures, or renewable energy.

Google's infrastructure needs go far beyond server computers. As Google's products and services scale the globe, the Energy and Location Strategy (ELS) team works behind the scenes to secure electric power for Google's global fleet of data centers. As an Energy Strategic Negotiator, you'll analyze and communicate trends, and evaluate supply, investment opportunities, and agreement structures. You'll work with project teams to lead transactions, energy portfolio planning, and vendor and partner relationship management. You'll develop and communicate recommendations based on this analysis to reduce operating costs, drive innovation in the energy industry, and impact every part of the business.In this role, you will evaluate new energy infrastructure and supply opportunities, contribute to strategic initiatives, lead projects, and collaborate with teams across the company in support of Google's data center portfolio and related infrastructure. In particular, you will focus on modeling, analytics, and presentation of our energy procurement strategy and management of a global portfolio of energy business agreements and renewable energy assets.

  • Negotiate data center energy supply and infrastructure agreements, and project management activities for key projects and initiatives including creating, building, and managing business relationships with third parties.

  • Perform analyses (e.g., agreement structuring, power market analysis, financial forecasting), and develop salient recommendations based on modeling.

  • Lead transaction discussions, and support development of agreement approvals, investment memos, and other transaction related materials.

  • Interface with a variety of team members (e.g., negotiators, portfolio managers, analytics experts, etc.) and cross-company partner teams (e.g., Engineering, Finance, Accounting, etc.).
