Senior Application Engineering Manager in Japan with robotics experience to lead the team as playing manager

Opportunity Overview

Provide expert technical support to our distributors and end users

Reporting directly to General Manager in Japan, you will be responsible for leading the application engineering team who are supporting our end users and distributors in Japan. Apart from people management, your primary tasks will be to support, educate and train our customers as application engineer. Application support will be handled on site at our customer premises, through email and telephone. You will be expected to travel approximately 60% of the time, with regular domestic travel and occasional international travel. Your role will also include the following tasks:

  • Create pre-sales and technical KPIs to drive the high growth and improve customers partners satisfaction in local market

  • Able to coach, guide, develop and manage the application engineering team

  • Able to navigate the team in both domestic and global organizational matrix at the same time = drive things locally but aligned with global and APAC application team.

  • Providing technical support to end users, system integrators & distributors

  • Providing robotic application support and consultation to end users, system integrators & distributors

  • Developing end users / distributors’ technical knowledge and abilities with regards to Universal Robots and applications

  • Participating in customer visits

  • Conducting proof of concept evaluation to end users

  • Preparing/Translating technical documentation

  • Participating in trade shows and seminars

  • Providing UR Academy Trainings to end users in a classroom and onsite

    All About you

    Qualifications:

To gain success in the job it is important that you are outgoing, service-minded and that you can commit at different organizational levels and in different correlations. You should have experience from a support department – preferably with experience within diagnosis and debugging. The job demands that you have documented practical experience within automation – preferably with knowledge of mechanical and electronic products. Furthermore you have experience with technical training and customer visits. To be considered for the job it is vital that you are fluent in Japanese and English. The ideal candidate has:

  • Bachelor degree or higher in Engineering/Computer Science related subject

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in robotics, automation or related industry

  • At least 3 years of experience in managerial role

  • Experience in creating and managing KPIs to drive the business

  • Experience in CRM to manage the business

  • Experience in designing and integrating robotic applications

  • Experience in conducting seminars/ trainings

  • Excellent computer and interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency in a high level programming language such as C++/Java/Python (a plus)

  • Sales background (a plus, but this is not a sales specific position)

  • Must possess good communication skills, ability to transfer knowledge and have a good understanding of cross cultural differences

  • Experienced in working for a foreign company

  • Must be highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects/ tasks simultaneously and effectively prioritize projects and tasks

  • Exhibits ownership over responsibilities and assigned tasks by ensuring that projects/ tasks are completed correctly and on time

  • Is flexible and works professionally

  • Quick learner who grasps concepts and processes quickly and intuitively
