WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

As Director, Business HR (BHR) for Nike Japan based in our Tokyo office, you'll provide solutions and advocacy to employees, managers and senior leaders. You will serve as trusted, strategic advisor and thought leader to Japan business and Functional executives, providing counsel to enhance their growth and impact to advance NIKE’s vision, mission and objectives. This role will collaborate closely with the business (Japan & GEO), GEO BHR, Center of Excellence (COEs), and People Solutions to integrate and implement HR People and Talent (pipeline) Strategies.

Additionally, you will drive alignment across peer GEO BHR teams to ensure consistent teammate experiences and enterprise outcomes. You will anticipate business opportunities, partnering closely with local business leadership and capturing insights to influence Business, People, and Talent strategies. This role will operate at a unique intersection of strategy, organization, and talent, providing the nuanced HR leadership and consultation required to elevate support to the business and the teammate experience.

As part of a global HR organization, the role will require some travel throughout Asia Pacific and to Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon in the United States.

WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON?

As the owner of Japan’s Team & Talent Strategy, you’ll need to build strong partnerships with COEs to collaborate effectively in designing and delivering team and talent solutions for the Japan business.

You should adopt and localize the GEO’s People Strategy and Annual Plan - in partnership with GEO BHR & GEO/Japan Business leadership - to best serve the Japan’s Business Strategy, accounting for GEO Business Strategies and Japan Business Plans. Bring it all to life by painting a compelling picture of the vision and strategy to motivate teammates to action. Regularly measure, assess progress, and adjust planning to drive intended outcomes. Serve insights back to geo/global teams for greater global integration.

With a deep understanding of business opportunities, you should continuously assess organizational design and operating models to evolve and deliver business strategies and capabilities. Evaluate Japan’s org effectiveness, identify opportunities, and develop Organizational Development and Organizational Effectiveness (OD/OE )strategy and action plan in partnership with Japan leadership, and GEO BHR. Lead OD/OE efforts as part of organization hygiene or in service of larger Transformational initiatives. Pro-actively drive labor-relations engagement where necessary.

You need to implement the GEO strategic workforce plan within Japan in partnership with GEO/Japan Business and GEO BHR. Share insights to GEO BHR to determine functional and leadership capabilities needed for the future to develop build/buy strategies and to shape talent solutions to address talent gaps. Ensure talent strategies are adopted and fit unique Japan needs. Participate in regular cadence of org, team and talent functional forums to influence the People and Talent strategies to serve Japan. Collaborate with GEO BHR on talent planning, movement, and succession planning. In partnership with Japan business leader, drive accountability and ownership for knowing talent, managing performance, and providing development.

You will also coach business executives and executive teams to support their development, optimize ways of working, and build team effectiveness. In addition, you will also partner with Japan leader(s) to gather insights, identify leadership team effectiveness opportunities, create plans and monitor progress. You should also own and partner with functional leaders to build a distinctive and uniquely-Nike culture, integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion so Nike continues to be a workplace where teammates feel they belong. Using insights from listening on how teammates experience the culture, develop strategies and action plans to drive engagement and belonging.

Additionally, you need to lead, coach and inspire a team of BHR teammates in Japan (direct or dotted line reporting). Own full lifecycle experiences of direct reports - e.g. performance excellence, development plans, L&D, etc. Engage and contribute to Global and GEO BHR team forums to ensure we think and act global.

WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH?

This role will focus on Nike's Japan’s business and will partner with the Japan Leadership Team. It will report to the Senior Director, Business HR Asia Pacific, based in Singapore.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, HR, Behavioral Sciences or related field or an additional two years of experience in lieu of a degree

  • Minimum 8 years of experience across HR Generalist and Specialist areas; experience leading or working closely with Organizational Development and Organizational Effectiveness (OD/OE), Talent Management, Employee Relations, Talent Acquisition and Total Rewards preferred.

  • Proven experience setting and leading complex organizational effectiveness and design initiatives, as well as multi-year talent strategies, is highly preferred

  • Demonstrate fluency in both Japanese and English, including the ability to write speak and understand both languages proficiently.

  • Well-developed business acumen and proven enterprise thinking and proven experience developing partnerships with business leaders, particularly in helping them lead an organization through significant change, and during a period of realignment and growth.

  • Ability to coach and communicate across all levels of a matrix organization with a strong executive communication and presentation skills

  • Comfortable with ambiguity

  • Flexible and adaptable to change in a fast-moving organisation.
