RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

The Senior Manager, Employee Engagement & Executive Communications, Janssen Japan is a leadership role in our Japan Pharmaceutical Communication & Public Affairs (CPA) team responsible for driving the engagement of our 1,000 employees in Japan and supporting our senior executives. The role reports directly to the Senior Director, Communication & Public Affairs, Janssen Japan and directly supports the President of Janssen Japan. The role also has people management responsibilities for the Employe Engagement team and the Language Concierge Group (LCG).

The role will:

Ÿ Lead the Employee Engagement team in Japan to engage and inspire our employees to deliver every day for the patients we serve

n Provide direct line management for two staff and inspire the 4 person EE and LCG team to find new ways to contribute strongly to the success of our business.

n Develop and lead industry-leading employee engagement campaigns that inspire all levels of the organization to achieve even better results.

n Continually improve upon benchmarks set internally within Japan through the regular Pulse surveys, and regional and global benchmarks such as the annual Credo survey.

n Create on-going points of interaction with the business, beyond specific campaigns, to enhance on-going, long-term employee reputation building.

n Craft and execute strategies that shift the employee experience work from elevating engagement to creating true employee ambassadors that have impact for our organization externally.

n Work closely with the Senior Director, Communication & Public Affairs, to ensure a collaborative, engaged team culture that prioritizes impactful work and promotes strong work-life balance.

Ÿ Provide strategic counsel and work directly with the President, Janssen Japan and other key members of the Japan Management Committee to powerfully represent our business internally and externally

n Counsel the President and senior leadership on any and all issues related to employee engagement and executive communication, representing the function on request at key Leadership Team meetings.

n Craft compelling speeches and presentations for the Japan President for both internal and external audiences.

n Strategically drive the online presence of the Japan President and leadership team.

n Identify business aligned external opportunities for the President to actively shape the company’s operating environment in Japan.

n Play a key role in supporting the President’s engagement with Trade Associations and work with other key partners such as Government Affairs and Market Access to develop a compelling engagement strategy for these stakeholders.

n Have responsibility for major internal meetings such as the L1Alpha program and Kick-off events, as well as CPA driven initiatives such as regular town halls.

Ÿ Lead the LCG to maintain their high standards of excellence and identify new ways to support our business

n Lead the Head of the LCG to build a strong, successful team that continues to expand their reputation as one of the best interpretation teams in the industry.

n Identify opportunities to expand the capabilities and services of the team to support the business in new ways.

n Support the team in bringing in new talent and providing top-tier service to new leaders joining the broader organization in Japan.

Ÿ As part of our matrixed CPA model, provide Employee Engagement & Executive Communications counsel and support to other CPA leaders in Japan

n Working closely with the Therapeutic Area Communication & Public Affairs Leaders provide guidance and counsel to the Business Unit leaders in Japan.

n Develop solutions and programs that meet both corporate needs, as well as reaching deep into the business units to engage our staff members at all levels.

n Identify ways to scale best practices across business units and break down silos within the team, and between the different parts of the organization.

Ÿ Actively represent Janssen Japan and engage with local cross-sector, regional and global teams across Johnson & Johnson and around the world

n Engage regularly with cross-sector colleagues in Japan to create a true “one team” culture with peer CPA leaders

n Work across sector lines in Japan to communicate powerfully with one Johnson & Johnson voice at key external and internal opportunities

n Support key enterprise CPA engagements in Japan such as Town Halls, Employee Resource Groups, public affairs programs and Community Impact programing

n Serve as an active and engaged member of the Asia Pacific Communication & Public Affairs Team – building a strong function across the region

n Promote the development and movement of talent across the region – building future regional leaders from Japan

n Deliver key regional capability building and best practice sharing initiatives

n Represent Asia Pacific at global forums and on global projects as required

Qualifications

Requirements

Ÿ Bachelor’s degree and above; advanced degree preferred

Ÿ 8-12 years working experience in internal and/or executive communications

Ÿ Healthcare industry and/or policy making environment experience preferred

Ÿ Proactive attitude to identify and address opportunities

Ÿ Strategic thinker with ability to develop robust strategies to inspire and engage employees, as well as drive our external narrative through our senior executives

Ÿ Flawless English written, verbal and visual communication skills is a must

Ÿ Flawless Japanese written, verbal and visual communication skills are preferred

Ÿ Strong understanding of Japanese media

Ÿ Experience leading teams across cultures

Ÿ Exceptional communication and coordination skills in a complex organization with proven success navigating among multiple stakeholders

Ÿ Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously across geographies and time zones

Ÿ Proven team leadership skills

Ÿ Ability to balance short- and long-term priorities

Ÿ Budget and agency management experience
