Amazon MGM Studios is the original movies and television development and production arm of Amazon. It is our role to produce original content for Amazon’s Prime Video customers.

We are looking for a Business Affairs Executive to add to our original film and television group. This role will also support our services across all scripted and unscripted deals in Japan. The role will be based in Tokyo and report to the Head of Business Affairs, Japan.

Significant experience negotiating original content development (e.g., original scripts, book options, underlying rights, overalls, etc.) and production matters (e.g., actor, writer, director, producer, production company agreements, etc.) is critical to this role. A comprehensive working knowledge of international film and television industry business models, development and production methodologies is necessary.

Further, this candidate should understand what is market and what isn't, and be able to come up with creative solutions to problems that commonly arise when blending traditional studio work with a global streaming service.

Key job responsibilities

This business affairs executive must be able to manage a varied, high-volume workload efficiently and smoothly, operate within corporate parameters, and remain cool and levelheaded in pressurized situations. A successful candidate is expected to be able to work collaboratively with colleagues in this department and across the studio, build strong internal client relationships, effectively advise senior-level executives under time-sensitive conditions and generate client satisfaction through clear thinking and risk analysis.

About the team

The Business Affairs team represents the commercial negotiating arm of Amazon MGM Studios, and is comprised of thinkers that enjoy the challenge of finding creative solutions in an evolving VOD marketplace. We are the Amazon representatives that interact directly with third party studios and talent, and are focused on translating market expectations and Amazon's global vision. We structure, negotiate and close deals that make commercial and strategic sense.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of entertainment industry deal negotiation experience

• Experience negotiating complex agreements with a firm understanding of legal terminology and reasoning

• Complete fluency in Japanese and English communications (verbal and written)

Preferred Qualifications

• J.D., or MBA

• Experience in content negotiation, acquisition or business development

• Experience in a studio, production company or television network
