Southbridge Care Homes Activity Aide - Casual in Thunder Bay, Ontario

ACTIVATION AIDE – Casual- No Line 

The incumbent will report to the Resident Program Manager. The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities and qualifications:

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

The activity aide will develop, implement and evaluate diversified programs and services to meet the physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of all residents.

  • Identify and assess the residents needs to develop fulfilling activities.

  • Set up and clean the activity area as necessary and assist with transporting residents to and from programs.

  • Participate in care conferences and other committees as required to assist in assessing needs of residents. Attends in-service education programs.

  • Encourage resident participation in programs and provide one to one support to residents.

  • Maintain program and resident records by using Activity Pro and Point Click Care as well as completing RAI/MDS assessments.

  • Adhere to established department policies and procedures regarding quality improvement, fire, safety, environment and infection control.

  • Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.

  • Other duties as assigned by Resident Program Manager.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proof of successful completion of a degree or diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or Leisure studies, Gerontology, Activation, Kinesiology, or other related field from College/University.

  • Successful completion of Restorative Care Education Training (RCET certificate) an asset

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation skills

  • Ability to read and write English well enough to understand complex verbal and written instructions and complete written documentation required.

  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-one/group program planning, implementation and evaluation for both well and the cognitively impaired.

  • Ability to work independently and ability to manage time effectively.

  • Current CPR and Emergency First Aide & Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and VSS if hired

  • Must be able to work flex hours including some evenings, weekend and holidays.

  • Must have a post secondary diploma or degree from an accredited community college or university in recreation, leisure or activation studies or therapeutic recreation, OR a degree or diploma in Social Service Worker in Gerontology: Music Therapy: or Gerontology that includes at least 3 courses in Recreation and Leisure or Therapeutic Recreation. Experience providing recreation program planning and implementation with seniors with physical and cognitive impairment is considered an asset. And energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly and who possesses excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to problem solve and demonstrate planning and creative abilities.

Membership in Activity Professionals of Ontario or Therapeutic Recreation Ontario is Preferred.
