Job Description

Teledyne Scientific Company is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to join the Laser Components & Systems group as a VCSEL Engineering Technician . Assemble and test complex electro-optical systems including Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers ( VCSEL ) in an advanced Manufacturing and Research and Development environment. Support cleanroom process operations including pick-and-place, eutectic die attachment and AuSn reflow soldering, hermetic package assembly, electro-optical testing, inspection, and product pack-out. Work with Engineering staff to support product sustaining and new process development. Additional responsibilities include process interactions related to Discrepant Material Reports (DMR), First Article Inspection (FAI) and test, calibration, and facilitating set up/preventive maintenance on process and test equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Operate cleanroom semiconductor process equipment such as pick-and-place, AuSn reflow soldering, wirebonding, epoxy die attach, and test equipment for electro-optical device characterization.

  • Perform laser alignment and characterization at the component and system level.

  • Contribute to process and yield improvements.

  • Assist with tracking production for yield and throughput monitoring including SPC charting.

  • Coordinate and perform set up and preventative maintenance on key equipment as required to ensure top quality process equipment.

  • Troubleshoot complex electro-optical and electronic assemblies as needed.

  • Follow and interact with all Quality Management Systems (QMS), clean room and safety procedures.

  • Order materials and cleanroom supplies as needed.

Qualifications & Competencies

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Ability to utilize detailed drawings and process / tool instructions.

  • Operate and collect data using a variety of precision measuring instruments.

  • Ability to contribute to the improvement and development of concepts and techniques for VCSEL device and optical component assembly and test.

  • Capability to complete complex tasks in creative and effective ways.

  • Ability to make recommendations for new procedures and work on writing Work Instructions (WI).

  • Ability to make independent, informed decisions in determining methods and procedures for new assignments.

  • Must be a team player, interact well, and communicate with all layers of the organization.

  • Ability to interpret and understand technical drawings and Work Instructions.

  • Excellent visual acuity and manual dexterity

  • Meticulous attention to detail and exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite. (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).

  • Displays exemplary ethics and business conduct and performs work cognizant of safe work practices.

  • Ability to work well under minimal supervision and in a team/group environment, while being a reliable team member.

  • Physical ability to walk, stand or sit for long periods, depending on work demand.

  • Able to lift 50 lbs

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma with three (3) to five (5) years of experience in electronics technology, semiconductor processing, cleanroom operations, or a recent college graduate in a technical engineering field such as Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or Materials Engineering.

Other Qualifications:

  • Due to the type of work at the facility and certain access restrictions, successful applicants must be a U.S. Citizen.

Salary Range:

$60,500.00-$80,850.000

The anticipated salary range listed for this role is only an estimate. Actual compensation for successful candidates is carefully determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, location, education/training, work experience, key skills, and type of position.
