Position Description:

The Department of Landscape Architecture in the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Texas Tech University (TTU) invites applications for two full-time, 9-month, tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor starting in the fall 2025 semester or earlier.

The Department seeks two colleagues with diverse skills, knowledge, and experiences who will advance the landscape architecture discipline, promote critical and creative design approaches, and integrate social, technical, and biophysical processes in the design of resilient landscapes with spatial experiences that inspire and delight.

Recently, the TTU Office of Research & Innovation embarked on a campus-wide initiative focused on maximizing the impact of research and creative endeavors. In doing so, TTU identified five Strategic Research Themes which include Climate Resilience, Powering Our Future, Advancing One Health, Thrive! Rural America, and Borders & Belonging.

Applicants should demonstrate how their research and teaching emphasis connects to the TTU Strategic Research Themes. Candidates who have very strong records of scholarship supported by extramural funding and who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to TTU are encouraged to apply. Service duties include program-building, as well as a commitment to extra-curricular activities. Service to the department, college, and university is expected.

About the College:

In addition to the Department of Landscape Architecture, the Davis College is home to the departments of Agricultural and Applied Economics, Agricultural Education and Communications, Animal and Food Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Plant and Soil Science, and Veterinary Sciences, along with multiple research centers and institutes. For the most recent academic year, the College had 2,687 undergraduate and 502 graduate students and generated approximately $14.4 million annually in extramural research funding.

About the Department/School/Area:

The Department of Landscape Architecture has a long history of excellence. The Bachelor (BLA) and Master (MLA) of Landscape Architecture programs are fully accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB). Support of the Department by its alumni and industry groups in the state is very strong. The Department is an essential contributor to the research enterprise of the Davis College and has a strong track record of involving students in service-learning activities and engaging the Lubbock community through outreach efforts. The Department has long-standing relationships with other campus programs, including the Huckabee College of Architecture and the multi-disciplinary Land Use, Planning, Management and Design PhD program.

The Department has facilities in two buildings on campus. The CASNR Annex is home to department and faculty offices as well as classroom, computer lab, printing, plotting, and digital fabrication spaces. The Landscape Architecture studio space is located in the newly renovated Agricultural Pavilion, one of the first buildings on the Texas Tech University campus.

Faculty Qualifications:

• Applicants must have an accredited professional degree in Landscape Architecture and a terminal degree in their discipline.

• One or more of the following, a) PhD in LA or related discipline, b) US professional licensure, or c) established/extensive track record of teaching.

• Applicants should demonstrate evidence of teaching landscape architecture studio and lecture courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.

• Applicants should demonstrate strong landscape architecture skills and knowledge and have an emerging or established research and teaching emphasis in one or more of the following areas:

• Resilient landscapes

• Urbanization and urban design

• Landscape performance

• Landscape technology

Applicants should demonstrate experiences with outreach, engagement, and/or service.
