McGovern Medical Schoolat UTHealth Houston, a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), non-tenure clinical track Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Pediatric Acute Care Cardiology position inthe Children's Heart Institute,Division of Pediatric Cardiology.

The Children’s Heart Institute (CHI) is seeking a pediatric cardiologist with expertise or subspecialty training in acute care/inpatient cardiology to join our rapidly expanding team. Fourth year acute care cardiology fellows as well as candidates with expertise in inpatient cardiology, quality improvement and/or patient safety are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicant will spend time on the cardiology inpatient service which covers the Children’s Heart Institute IMU (acute care unit), Cardiac ICU, cardiology consults and cardiac patients in NICU. Duties include patient care, teaching of fellows/residents/medical students/APPs, and participation in research and/or other scholarly activities. The acute care cardiology team is a multidisciplinary team consisting of cardiologists, fellows, residents, growing APP team, nursing, dietitians, pharmacists, discharge coordinators, case managers, speech therapists.

The Pediatric Cardiology Team is diverse and internationally recognized for providing patients with the best standard of pediatric cardiac care for children and adults with congenital heart defects. We have 22 cardiologists, including 3 acute care cardiologists, non-invasive imaging (fetal and cardiac MR/CT), interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, HF/transplant, preventive cardiology, and community cardiologists. There are 4 congenital heart surgeons with a 20-bed dedicated cardiac ICU, 20 intermediate care beds, and a 120-bed NICU. Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital is ranked in the top 30 pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery programs in the 2022-2023 US News & World Report.

The selected candidate will contribute to the department's mission to educate health science professionals, discover and translate advances in the biomedical and social sciences, and model the best practices in clinical care and public health through research, teaching, clinical service, administrative activities, and other services.

Position Key Accountabilities:

The Rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in the Children's Heart Institute will provide direct patient care and supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows in clinical and hospital settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and sustaining an environment in the patient care units that support excellence and innovation in clinical practice and patient care through assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patients, processes, protocols and standards that support positive patient care outcomes to include excellent risk-adjusted outcomes.

  • Participating in ongoing departmental Quality Improvement planning and processes consistent with the organizational Quality Management Plan.

  • Identifying patient and family needs of the populations served; recommending and/or developing new programs and services to meet those needs; assuring that age-specific equipment, supplies, and educational resources are available for assigned units/services.

  • Providing coaching, mentoring, support, and consultation to clinical managers, attending physicians, research personnel, colleagues, clinical staff, and fellows.

  • Delegating authority and accountability to clinical & nursing staff for clinical practice and patient care decisions that are consistent with professional standards, regulatory agencies, and organizational policies and procedures.

  • Serving as a role model in professional behavior and leadership skills, problem-solving ability, and interpersonal skills

  • Participating in and/or chairing committees, work groups, and meetings at as appropriate.

  • Maintaining professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, in-services, current literature, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in fields of expertise; supporting and promoting education and research.

Qualifications:

  • Texas Medical License or be eligible for a Texas Faculty Temporary License.

  • Board-Certified in Pediatrics and Board-Certified and/or eligible candidates in Pediatric Cardiology.
