McGovern Medical SchoolatUTHealth Houston, a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time Assistant (tenure-track), Associate, or Full Professor position in theDepartment of NeurosurgeryandTexas Institute for Restorative Neurotechnologies(TIRN). TIRN is focused on innovative diagnostic and therapeutic techniques to target functional disorders of the human brain. We leverage the latest advancements in neuroscience, neuro-technology, and neuroinformatics to transform education, research, and the management of these disorders of the brain.

We are looking for a candidate who is interested in the neural decoding of cortical signals from brain-computer interfaces in humans. We are looking for an individual who currently uses or is interested in using neural networks, deep learning, and/or derivation of latent brain states in their research.

UTHealth Houston is set up to assist with human subjects' protection and regulatory documents, and the central mission of TIRN is the improve the lives of those living with chronic neurological disorders. Recent hires are dedicated to designing novel electrical recording and stimulation devices using minimally invasive approaches, increasing channel counts, and biomimetic interfaces. The successful candidate will be appointed in the Department of Neurosurgery and may also be cross-appointed atRice University.At UTHealth Houston, we have active collaborations and relationships with industry partners and several electrode/array developers, both in-house and in the industry. The candidate will also have access to a research-only 3T MRI scanner, a MEG scanner, and large datasets of intracranial recordings in tumor and epilepsy patients.

Position Key Accountabilities:

· Conducting independent and collaborative research, actively pursuing grants and sponsored contracts, participating

in scholarly research and publishing results

· Supervising post-docs and graduate student research assistants in research and development activities

· Participating, developing, and expanding the scope of collaborative and funded-program portfolio

· Participating in the education mission by enhancing the curriculum for students, residents, and fellows

· Participating in Quality Assurance (QA) efforts, the department chair's annual faculty review (AFR), and other departmental

meetings and/or retreats

· Coordinating with the Office of Development for philanthropic support

Qualifications:

Qualified applicants must demonstrate a commitment to excellence, discovery, and service, have the potential to be outstanding in their field of expertise, and share an interest in fulfilling the common goals of McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. Preferred applicants will possess a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Neuroscience or a related field with post-doctoral experience in this field. A record of verifiable and published research with potential to obtain extramural, peer-reviewed funding, and excellent teamwork and communication skills are also required.
