Job Summary and Qualifications

This position is responsible for the daily and periodic cleaning of the designated area according to performance standards set up for the position. The employee is responsible for all work in the assigned work area.

Behavioral characteristics: · Effective communicator, mentally alert, dependable, reliable, conscientious, tactful, flexible, and cooperative · Possesses integrity, uses good judgment and shows initiative · Has the ability to function well in stressful situations · Demonstrates commitment, safety, honesty, integrity and compassion · Ability to work and communicate with all patients, family members, physicians and employees · Must maintain regular attendance and punctuality · Works with minimal supervision, displaying good judgment, self-motivation, initiative, and organization skills · Ability to work well and communicate with all staff · Demonstrates behaviors that are relative to the HCA Mission and Values Statement: “We act with absolute honesty, integrity and fairness in the way we conduct our business and the way we live our lives.” Position responsibilities: · General cleaning of patient rooms, occupied, vacant, isolation, discharge, bathrooms, ancillary areas, elevators, corridors and stairways · Damp dust housing items, all furnishings, dust mop, wet mop floors, vacuum · Cleans and performs daily preventive maintenance on the Medical Waste Unit according to procedures · Extracts carpets in all areas of the hospital as assigned · Empty, clean, reline waste containers and transport trash to pick up site · Record discharge cleaning, dispenses paper products and soap, dust, spot cleans and washes walls, doors and glass · Changes sharps container when 3/4 full and disposes of container per hospital policy · Cleans equipment after use and returns to stockroom · Returns soiled linen and cleaning cloths to soiled linen area

· Cleans trash cans as needed, using hospital approved germicide · Controls and properly uses supplies and equipment · Attends unit meetings, in services and other educational programs to maintain competency requirements · Performs other duties as assigned · Performs efficiently with CPCS · Attend Code of Conduct training course annually · Demonstrate an understanding of and adherence to HCA’s Code of Conduct · Demonstrates conduct that is reflective of THRH’s commitment to HCA’s Code of Conduct · Understands and satisfies the needs of the patient population appropriate to the age of the patient served (adults, geriatric, adolescent, pediatric, and parents of neonates) · Adheres to the Standards of Behavior for Terre Haute Regional Hospital as per the Customer Relations Policy Essential educational/licensure, skills and experience: · Excellent communication skills in all forms · A commitment to serving the needs of the patient population

What qualifications you will need:

Valued but not required educational/licensure, skills and experience: · Prior experience in motel, hotel or health care housekeeping Physical demands and the work environment: · Physical demands: This position will require you to lift 50 pounds or less frequently, lift up to 100 hundred pounds occasionally. Walk and stand most of the day, bend and stoop frequently, push and pull equipment and carts on a regular basis. · Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, you will spend approximately 75% or more of your time inside. You may be exposed to blood or body fluids, toxic/caustic/chemical detergents. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, and potential electric shock. You will be using latex gloves frequently. You may work in areas that are confined and /or crowded. · OSHA Category II: The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues but exposure to or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate protective measures should be utilized. · Cultural Competencies: Employee supports facility diversity initiatives; communicates with people of all cultures in ways that build trust and respect; and completes mandatory education on cultural diversity.
