Responsibilities

Plastics Circularity is a globally important topic, and understanding plastic waste streams is a fundamental step towards transforming waste into a valuable feedstock. At Dow, we have developed an analytical platform to characterize plastic waste samples using various techniques (e.g., infra-red spectroscopy and elemental analysis of CHNOS).

Mixed plastic waste is inherently diverse due to variations in collection schemes, sorting technologies at Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), and seasonal fluctuations. This complexity, coupled with the lack of standardized sampling methods for solid waste, creates the need for the development of robust methodologies. Our project aims to create a reliable sampling methodology to be applied in our characterization platform.

This project will be a collaboration between the Packaging, Specialty Plastics & Hydrocarbons Business and Core R&D Analytical Science.
