The Amazon Transportation Services Supply Strategy and Optimization Management (SS&O) team is responsible for determining the amount, placement, and type of supply that the Amazon Middle Mile (NA) network needs to achieve the lowest cost network for weeks, months, and years ahead. We partner closely with research scientists, data scientists, software teams, analysts, product, and program managers of all levels to create a strategic capacity plan, benchmark, manage variability risks, improve tools and analytic approaches, and close execution gaps. This role will give the candidate the ability to influence and drive organization level decisions by influencing teams to deliver across various levels of leadership in a highly complex, ambiguous, and impactful space. As a Principal Applied Scientist, you are trusted to operate with complete independence and are often assigned to focus on areas where the strategy has not yet been defined, allowing the candidate to showcase their strong communication, analytical and earning trust skills. The candidate will bring proven project/program management and applied science experience to own researching and developing new capacity planning technologies, products, or processes to enable and streamline long term tactical planning and cross-functional decisions ultimately influencing technology projects and programs within the Amazon Transportation Planning team.
Key job responsibilities
As the SS&O Principal Supply Chain Manager, this team member will specifically be responsible for researching and developing models, algorithms, and systems that use data to enhance supply planning and optimization products and services. This is inclusive of having the experience to complete the following:
• Quantify, data mine, analyze and present industry trends and evolving network level performance to proactively identify demand execution plan variation opportunities to minimize risk associated to the annual and weekly plans, protect continuity of supply, and utilize supply program developments that benefit the Amazon Transportation business.
• Identify and pursue opportunities to leverage, create and or consolidate the network demand execution plan allocation using system level tools and techniques to ensure repeatable success.
• Understand forecasting, demand planning, resource planning and operational processes to develop models in R/Python to validate capacity execution commitments.
• Run descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive statistics to evaluate network and domicile level demand execution plan and allocation building resiliency without driving excess churn.
• Utilize statistical analysis tools to drive plan optimization improvement initiatives to continually lower liquidity risks to ensure success with meeting the quarterly plan.

• Influence supply team stakeholders' processes, technology decisions and policies to ensure there is a mutually beneficial continuous improvement and sustainable process to source, allocate, prioritize and coordinate resources needed to achieve goals.
• Manage full lifecycle of complex cross-functional programs with considerable impact across multiple organizations.
• Work autonomously in an ambiguous environment, seeking to understand business problems, automation limitations, scaling factors, boundary conditions and reasons behind leadership decisions.
• Solve ambiguous problems and proactively identify and mitigate risks (before they become roadblocks).
• Develop, implement, and govern KPI reporting for a portfolio of programs to communicate the impact of critical business initiatives, and inputs impacting the quarterly goals across up to three levels of leadership.
• Engage other Amazon business units globally to share best practices and improve end to end outcomes for Amazon customers.
Basic Qualifications
7+ years of working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams experience
7+ years of program or project management experience
7+ years of managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership experience
7+ years of working cross functionally across several teams experience
5+ years of supply chain experience
Bachelor's degree
Experience implementing repeatable processes and driving automation or standardization
Experience defining program requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements
Preferred Qualifications
Experience delivering projects within scope, time, budget and quality
Experience with tools/systems to analyze data including Excel, Access, SQL or other data management systems
Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements
Master's Degree in relevant field like business, computer science, statistics, or engineering

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
