Fairleigh Dickinson University Systems Administrator (Windows) in Teaneck, New Jersey
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Systems, the Systems Administrator (Windows) deploys, maintains, and troubleshoots all data center systems. This includes, but is not limited to, permissions, modifications, configuration, backups, restores, provisioning of resources, and other related activities. The Systems Administrator (Windows) participates in system builds, installations, and maintenance. The Systems Administrator (Windows) monitors the daily health of the operating systems and responds to backup-related issues. Flexibility to work required hours to address critical department needs, on-call 24 hours per day, 365 days per year with defined response time 24 hours, except when on vacation.
Required Qualifications:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES :
Builds, manages, configures, and monitors Windows core and infrastructure. This includes management of security tools for anti-spam and antivirus.
Supports Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 and Windows 10/11 in an Active Directory environment.
Manages Microsoft Active Directory services, including all aspects of Active Directory user account maintenance: Server backup, restore, patching, and quota maintenance.
Supports and manages file and printer services provided to the users.
Ensures all changes are made in accordance with FDU’s change control, security, and risk assessment policies.
Ensures risk and vulnerability mitigation via automated patch management.
Maintains a working knowledge of continuing developments in Computer Security.
Analyzes information and evaluates results to recommend process improvements, choose effective solutions, and solve problems.
Follows the Change Management process for all changes to production systems, including documenting all changes made to systems.
Provides end-user support, including resolving support tickets assigned to the department.
Maintains broad technical knowledge of current and emerging technologies.
Flexibility to work required hours to address critical department needs, on-call 24 hours per day, 365 days per year with defined response time 24 hours, except when on vacation.
Performs other work related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor of Science degree required in Computer Science. Equivalent related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree plus 2 years of experience in Microsoft Systems Administration. Microsoft certification is a plus.
Ability to perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of Windows systems.
Strong knowledge of setting up, maintaining, and monitoring system hardware in data centers with minimal guidance.
Strong knowledge of managing Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, DNS , DHCP , and ADFS
Strong knowledge of PowerShell and other scripting languages.
Experience managing ADFS and directory sync into Azure AD.
Experience utilizing various backup software in a virtualized environment like Veeam. Ability to review, troubleshoot, and restore systems from backup software as needed..
Knowledge of VMware infrastructure with multisite replication and SRM .
Knowledge of administrating database systems ( SQL , MySQL.).
General knowledge of Cloud technologies, Networking, TCP /IP, and networking protocols ( NFS , CIFS , SMB2).
Effective organizational skills to meet schedules and timelines. Must be able to work independently and produce deliverables according to established deadlines.
Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and balance priorities with good time management skills.
Strong coordination and planning skills with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of university personnel and students.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to creatively challenge current methods and procedures.
Independent learner and self-directed; takes the initiative while working within a team context.
Must enjoy researching new technologies, learning, and expanding one’s knowledge.
Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies to the best of one’s ability.
Valid driver’s license and access to transportation for travel between campuses.
