The role you’ll contribute: Medical Assistant and Surgical Scheduler

The Surgical Scheduler Coordinator is responsible for greeting, instructing, directing and scheduling patients. Responsibilities include scheduling surgical procedures, pre-admission testing, and posting of surgical charges. Serves as a liaison between patient and medical support staff.

Medical Assistant responsibilities as needed:

The PRN Medical Assistant, under general supervision, provides appropriate care to patients as well as follows AdventHealth service standards. This includes safely and effectively greeting patients, obtaining clinical information, financial and demographic information. Responsible for assisting providers during treatment and examination and may assist with procedures and medication administration as ordered by the provider. Performs office duties as needed; which includes but is not limited to, verifying insurance, collecting copays and scheduling necessary appointments.

  • ·Meets with patient to coordinate surgical date.·Reviews preoperative instructions: bowel preparation, no aspirin, etc.·Registers patient and procedure with the appropriate hospital scheduling department.·Coordinates cases requiring multi-specialty surgeons, utilization of an assistant surgeon, or physician assistant.·Correlates pre-admission testing and surgical clearance appointments.·Assists patients and families with Hospital information and hotel accommodations as needed.·Prepares patient chart orders for surgeon.·Obtains authorization for hospital admission from patient’s insurance carrier.·Maintain and updates physicians surgical schedule coordinating patient procedures, meetings, and various appointments.·Coordination of surgical schedule with dictationist for patient history and physicals.·Plans patient transfers from other facilities.·Updates patient account with hospital pre-certification number, admission date, and postoperative days to allow for the timely billing of claims.·Organizes information needed for appropriate billing to include operative, pathology, and CPT code sheets.·Charge entry for all inpatient, outpatient, and assisted surgical procedures.·Enter new hospital patient demographics and charges.·Verifies surgical schedule matches surgical charges entered.·Maintains monthly totals of inpatient, outpatient, and assisted procedures.·Reports to the supervisor the need for updates and corrections for the accurate and timely submission of claims.·Reports to the supervisor any unresolvable practice or system issues resulting in the untimely payment of claims.·File transfer of physician dictation to dictationist.·Completes special projects or performs other duties as assigned by the Office Manager in a timely manner.·Performs clinical intake according to AHMG policy and procedures as PRN Medical Assistant

Minimum qualifications :

· High school graduate or equivalent.

· Medical office experience as cashier or receptionist

· Graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant program through an educational institution accredited by one of the following:

Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (“CAAHEP”), or

Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (“ABHES”

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

· One year of medical terminology, ICD-9/10 and CPT-4 coding experience preferred

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

· Must be currently certified and maintain certification by one of the following:

  1. American Association of Medical Assistants (“AAMA”) for Certified Medical Assistants (CMA)

  2. American Medical Certification Association (“AMCA”) for Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC)

  3. American Medical Technologists (“AMT”) for Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)

  4. National Association for Health Professionals (“NAHP”) for Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA)

  5. National Center for Competency Testing (“NCCT”) for National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)

  6. National Healthcareer Association
