Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking hourly part-time Architectural Historians for our projects in the Southeastern US. We offer the opportunity to work and learn in a positive environment with an innovative and experienced team. While Stantec has offices across the US and Canada, and this position can lead to work with colleagues in other cities, applicants currently located in northern Florida, southern Alabama, or Georgia are preferred.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Research and develop historic contexts

  • Prepare written architectural descriptions and evaluations of significance

  • Perform fieldwork tasks, including photographing resources, and using a tablet for data collection

  • Conduct archival research online and at libraries and repositories

  • Prepare inventory forms and assist with technical reports

  • Additional duties may include support for local and National Register of Historic Places nominations, historic preservation plans, historic structure reports, educational materials, and other types of special projects

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Basic knowledge of cultural resources management and Section 106 compliance

  • Must be familiar with Southeastern historic structure types and styles and have experience writing building descriptions

  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of an interdisciplinary team with other cultural resources and environmental professionals

  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Willing to travel to meet project needs

  • Requires valid driver’s license and good driving record

Education and Experience

Graduate degree or certificate in public history, heritage conservation, architectural history, historic preservation, planning, or related field that meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Guidelines for Professional Qualification Standards for Architectural History; current enrollment in a graduate degree program will also be considered with an undergraduate degree in one of these fields.

Prior experience as an architectural historian/built environment specialist working in cultural resources management or a closely related field desired but not required

Salary Range(s):

    • $24.00 - $30.00 per hour

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience and work location.

This position works in both field and office settings. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather, remote locations, summer heat, and rough terrain; as well as bending, stooping, carrying field equipment, standing, and walking for extended periods.
