    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    Participates in all aspects of research projects. Assists with identifying research needs, developing projects scopes, selecting research team, managing project, reviewing deliverables, and implementing results.

    Assists in performing reviews of Category 2 consultant-produced bridge design projects from initial concept to preparation of final contract documents. Reviews project specific design criteria from Request for Proposal (RFP) and Concept Plan inception through project procurement for Category 2 bridge projects. Assists in developing innovative RFP contracting language which maximizes contract flexibility while achieving project objectives.

    Develops and implements proposals for new design policies and procedures. Develops and reviews revisions to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Bridge Design Specifications. Assists with development of construction and material specifications originated in the Structures Design Office.

    Participates in in-house design projects and special project studies that include analysis, design, and calculations.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Structures Manual, Soils and Foundations Handbook, Bridge Load Rating Manual, FDOT Design Manual, Standard Plans for Road and Bridge Construction, Basis of Estimates Manual, Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) Production Criteria Handbook; Knowledge of AASHTO Load-and-Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) Bridge Design Specifications, Standard Specifications for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaires and Traffic Signals, Manual for Bridge Evaluation; Knowledge of structural engineering practices and principles; Knowledge of Computer Aided Design and Drafting software; Skilled in solving engineering problems; Skilled in utilizing structural design/analysis software, MathCad and Microsoft Office Programs; Skilled in reading and interpreting structures and roadway construction plans; Ability to prepare project scopes of services and staff hour estimates; Ability to effectively coordinate and communicate with others, verbally and in writing; Ability to adapt to other section needs; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

    OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: This position will be required to respond before, during, and following emergency situations.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Registration as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Florida Statute 471
