To achieve this goal, the Cloud AI & Advanced Systems Engineering (CAASE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a strong passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Collaboration with external suppliers (ODMs, storage devices) and internal teams to develop and optimize mass storage device test requirements with system test strategies and test cases to meet system level requirements and to verify this test collateral for functionality at a node and rack level.

  • Participation in product concept design discussions; Composition of node and rack system level requirements; Clarification of interfaces between design domains; Providing feedback for future design requirements to help develop robust and high-performance cloud hardware solutions.

  • Analysis and linkage of system level requirements with server/platform validation and mass storage device qualification coverage throughout the lifecycle of programs and the publishing of plan vs. progress reports.

  • Collaboration with external suppliers (ODMs, storage devices) and internal teams in cross-boundary triaging, debugging, and resolving issues.

  • Guide software engineers to automate test flows.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related degree

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in mass storage devices or server/platform development and testing for enterprise or cloud market segments.

  • Minimum 8+ years of hands-on experience in mass storage device or server hardware development and test engineering with a solid understanding of hardware, firmware, and OS interfaces.

  • Experience is required with testing complex system level designs and ability to debug to root-cause - identifying potential fixes to hardware components, firmware components, or OS.

  • Experience is required with architecting and optimizing system and device level test scenarios and guiding software engineers to automate test flows.

  • Possession of fundamental knowledge is required regarding Mass Storage Devices and Server Architecture at a block level, Electrical/Power/Thermal hardware design principles and HW/FW/OS interactions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with platform level test usage of test instruments including, but not limited to PCIe protocol analyzers, SAS/SATA protocol analyzers and JTAG tools.

  • Experience with evaluating hardware designs, HW/FW/OS interactions, platform configuration trade-offs, performance tuning and optimizations.

  • Strong technical communication skills (verbal and written) for technical discourse with cross-functional technical leads within and/or outside of the organization.

  • Experience with firmware development will be an advantage.

  • Deployed server fleet debug experience will be an advantage.
