To learn more about the company including a locations map, visit us at: https://www.stella-jones.com/en/inside-stella-jones Position Details The Accounting Manager supports a team of accounting professionals in the Tacoma office and a variety of business processes. The position will provide hands-on leadership and general support to a team of Cost Accountants. Individual will have exposure to costing, variances, freight and be in position to provide insightful analysis to business leaders. The position reports to the Accounting Director and works closely with the General Ledger accounting team to ensure costing of inventories is accurate. This is a newly created role due to growth and will be based at our Tacoma office with a hybrid work schedule (3 days in office / 2 remote). Primary Responsibilities: Support accounting procedures and processes at Western Species treat plants and pole peeling facilities Ensure monthly close processes including actual costing are executed timely and effectively Coordinate and manage month end preservative adjustment process Perform Trial Balance reviews and prepare accounting entries necessary for accurate costing Develop and monitor cost standards at each manufacturing location Continuously evaluate actual and standard cost variances for all manufactured materials Ensure accounts are reconciled appropriately on a monthly basis Support testing and process development related to transition of facilities from legacy ERP into SAP Responsible for ensuring accuracy of master data for inventory SKU's Provide support to the FAA (Freight Accumulation Account) program; present analysis and rate revisions to sales for review and approval Gatekeeper for annual physical counts at treating plants and peeling yards Supervise, train and evaluate the accounting team Coordinate information and documentation for internal and external audits Support the preparation of annual budget and quarterly forecast updates Assures internal control policies are in place and are operating effectively Partner with management to prepare value added analysis and reports Provide support to Director of Accounting as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Management duties include supervision of exempt and/or non-exempt staff. This includes but is not limited to, conducting performance evaluations and improvement plans, approving paid time-off (PTO), assigning or delegating work, providing on-the-job training, giving guidance to staff, taking disciplinary action, and interviewing candidates for open positions. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree (B.A) from four-year college or university Experience: 5+ years of experience in accounting functions, including cost accounting and preparation of budgets required. 2+ years of experience of supervisory experience preferred.
