SUNY Upstate Medical University Staff Chaplain in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

The Chaplain will provide clinically trained, broadly interfaith, ministry as well as faith specific spiritual care, to the entire hospital population. This position will assist the manager of spiritual care in providing direct spiritual care at Community hospital. Duties will include covering the Emergency Department, ICU, inpatient psychiatry, the Community Cancer Center, all other patient care areas as well as providing support to families and hospital staff. One evening shift a week may be part of this position, regular days are Tuesday - Saturday. Additional responsibilities include consultation with the interdisciplinary and palliative care teams to address identified goals of care and assessed spiritual needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in Divinity/Theology or equivalency, endorsed and/or ordained and in good standing with one's faith tradition and a minimum of 2 years experience working in a clinical setting plus excellent written/oral and interpersonal skills and ability to be a team player required. The ideal candidate will have 4 units (1600 hours) of Clinical Pastoral Education from the ACPE, and be Board Certified or eligible by one of the three major national pastoral care organizations (Association of Professional Chaplain, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, National Association of Jewish Chaplains). or must obtain within three years of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Hospital chaplaincy experience preferred; experience as a team player in a department of spiritual care preferred, exhibits strong clinical chaplaincy skills preferred, experience ministering to persons with mental illness preferred.

Work Days:

Tuesday- Saturday 0830-1700 regularly one evening shift weekly rotating holidays
