M&T Bank Senior Wealth Associate in Syracuse, New York

Overview:

Supports Wealth Advisors in all aspects of the Wealth Management relationship, including assisting in planning, core banking, investment, and Trust advisement. Teams with the Wealth Advisor to ensure high client satisfaction and provide support in the identification and expansion of business. Builds on sales and service capabilities to be able to transition to a Wealth Advisor role.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Wealth Advisor to manage client relationships to ensure outstanding client service. Leverage available internal and external resources, including fiduciary, planning, investment and banking partners, as well as external accountants, attorneys and other professionals to resolve client-related issues and meet client needs. Ensure Wealth Advisor has an updated schedule for regular client touchpoints.

  • Communicate with clients, external advisors, and internal specialists to coordinate and facilitate meetings to support attracting, retaining, and expanding business. Prepare targeted prospecting lists and other sales support to support an organized sales strategy and support. Document the Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) with prospect, sales, client information and communication.

  • Develop client meeting materials to support business activities. Prepare annual Relationship Reviews to identify opportunities to develop and expand business and present relationships at committee meetings.

  • Assist the Wealth Advisor by attending internal meetings to deepen knowledge of investments, core banking services, and Trust; take notes and highlight critical information as it pertains to client communication and servicing. As skills build, take on increasing number of client-facing responsibilities and may be primary contact on smaller client accounts.

  • Participate in development of external centers of influence and represent the firm’s expertise within the professional community to build a network of external referral partners.

  • Work with Wealth Associates to ensure all data input and reporting needs of the Wealth Advisor are met, including systems and analysis related to planning, investments, and Trust as well as to provide guidance and training as required.

  • Provide advice and guidance to Wealth Associates to support development of client-facing responsibilities.

  • Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies. Complete investment-related compliance reviews and any other compliance support that arises.

  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

The Senior Wealth Associate provides comprehensive support to the Wealth Advisor to enable them to focus on the attraction and expansion of business and provide high client satisfaction. The position has significant client interaction and assists in ensuring all aspects of client needs are met. The jobholder facilitates and manages interactions with many internal and external advisors to ensure the full spectrum of products and services are provided to the client. This position develops a comprehensive understanding of the specialty areas (core banking, investments, planning and trust) to effectively leverage our internal expertise. The position assists in overseeing all aspects of the client relationship, under the direction of the Wealth Advisor, to ensure an excellent experience for all clients.

The position is also accountable for supporting revenue growth and acting as a client advocate to ensure clients receive access to the full resources of the firm. The position serves as an internal liaison between Wealth Advisors and all other internal service areas, such Investments, Trust, Private Banking, Wealth Planning, etc. to coordinate and plan on relationship-oriented activities supporting the client. The position is responsible for coordinating and overseeing relationship onboarding to facilitate a smooth and efficient process, and an excellent new client experience. This position serves as a feeder pool for the Wealth Advisor role and gains progressive experience in client-facing responsibilities focused on the attraction and retention of business. The position also provides coaching and guidance to the Wealth Associate to support their growth away from purely operational responsibilities to client-facing responsibilities.

Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience

Education and Experience Preferred:

Minimum of 1 year’s financial services sales or relationship management experience

Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Certified Trust & Fiduciary Advisor (CTFA), and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation

Physical Requirements:

Availability to attend/travel to client meetings and other events

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $93,581.10 - $155,968.51 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
