Amentum Jr. Legal Assistant (DMA I) in Syracuse, New York

  • Works under the direction of a Supervisory Legal Assistant.

  • Using a variety of office software, provides automated litigation assistance. Inputs and dockets case data into an automated case management system.

  • Open new cases, send demand letters, subpoenas, and file liens.

  • Arranges travel by preparing itinerary and securing transportation and hotel reservations. Prepares travel authorizations and vouchers for traveler signature and Government approval.

  • Maintains calendar of assigned active cases. Tracks filing, hearing, and trial dates, and scheduling conferences and interviews. Maintains pending dates and deadlines for ongoing cases and informs the AUSA of upcoming deadlines. Maintains calendar(s) of the AUSA(s), scheduling appointments, interviews, and conferences, and provides reminders of commitments and court appearances.

  • Provides Word processing and data entry/retrieval.

  • Answers inquiries regarding case related information as maintained in the database.

  • Receives telephone calls and visitors.

  • Receives, reviews, and distributes incoming FAXs, mail and packages.

  • Ensures mail received from other agencies is appropriately screened and distributed.

  • Ensures daily incoming mail is delivered and is processed accordingly.

  • Ensures daily outgoing mail is available for pickup by mail carrier at the end of the day. • Supports meeting set up/break down.

  • Operate copier, fax, scanner.

  • Types routine forms, letters.

  • Assists with organizing, purging and closing of case files; files in Records Room.

  • Performs administrative tasks and small projects such as updating directories, data entry, filing, document development/preparation, and assisting the Records Coordinator with shipments to the Federal Records Center.

  • Serves as backup to reception on as needed basis. Duties to include greeting visitors, answers phones, directing calls to appropriate division.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain MRPT facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location.

  • Must have one year of experience with litigation support projects or undergraduate degree; coursework in legal related studies helpful.

  • Must be able to work independently and as a part of a team.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.

  • Requires hands-on familiarity with Windows Operating systems, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel, as well as government networks environments, internet and server-based database.

  • Applicant must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills are required.

  • Must be able to work in an office setting where some walking, siting, standing, bending and carrying of small office items is required.

  • Must be comfortable working in an office setting.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Prior experience with working in a legal office setting is highly preferred.

  • Experience with data entry, calendar management and docketing helpful.

This position supports an SCA (Service Contract Act) contract; therefore, the hourly wage is determined by the Department of Labor. This position is classified as a General Clerk III and the hourly wage is $19.05/hr and is eligible for Health and Welfare.
