SUNY Upstate Medical University Float Nurse Manager in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

The Float Nurse Manager assumes primary leadership and management of defined clinical nursing areas to facilitate and deliver comprehensive quality nursing care and to manage the environment in which care is given. Major functions include: goals, planning, customer service/marketing, standards, certification and accreditation, administrative management, budget/cost containment, communication, and education. Ensures adherence to hospital or department and university policies and to nursing policies, procedures, standards, and practices. The Nurse Manager exemplifies the Upstate mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Upstate policies and procedures. The Float Nurse Manager will be assigned to cover for prolonged Nurse Manager vacancies or leave of absence supporting day to day operational unit activities and assisting with sustaining strategic initiatives. The Float Nurse Manager will assist with orienting and supporting the new Nurse Manager once hired. If not providing interim coverage or during downtime, the Float Nurse Manager will assist with hardwiring ongoing nursing department strategic initiatives including but not limited to RN engagement and satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Nursing or Masters degree in Nursing required. NYS licensed/registered (or eligible) Registered Nurse required. Five (5) years of post licensure acute/ambulatory care RN experience required to include a minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in a Nurse Manager role. Excellent written/oral communication, organizational and interpersonal skills required. CPR-BLS certification required by time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Nursing Leadership certification preferred. Leadership experience across settings preferred. Demonstrated track record of patient satisfaction and RN satisfaction scores out performing national benchmarks greatly preferred. Masters degree preferred.
