POSITION TITLE: Dean, College of Nursing

LOCATION: Syracuse, NY

POSITION SUMMARY:

St. Joseph’s College of Nursing invites applications for the position of Dean, College of Nursing. The college seeks a dynamic leader who will guide nursing education at St. Joseph’s College of Nursing into the future. The Dean is student outcomes focused with a shared strategic vision, displaying transparency and collaboration with key stakeholders inclusive of the Syracuse community and Central New York region. The Dean serves as the chief administrative officer of the college, responsible for planning, organizing and leading the overall operations and administration of the service assigned in compliance with the mission and philosophy of the organization as established by the Board of Trustees. The Dean is responsible for the overall operations, administration, and management of the College of Nursing and represents the college to academic and professional education communities, students, and alumni. The Dean also creates and clearly articulates the vision and leadership necessary to accomplish the college’s strategic plan while aligning the mission of the college and the governing organization.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

Doctoral degree required, Master’s degree in nursing or related field with at least five years of progressive experience in nursing education and academic leadership. The Dean is required to be a graduate of an accredited school/college of nursing and hold current licensure as a Registered Nurse in New York state.

Participates in continuing education, updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise. Has specialized knowledge and skills in nursing education, curriculum design, and program development and evaluation; maintains general knowledge of current nursing practices, is a participating member of the Council for Associate Degree Nursing (CADN) in New York State, and keeps abreast of policies and procedures of the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

SPECIAL SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills; transformational leadership behaviors and skills in initiating and managing change; strong management practice, including planning, organizing, conflict resolution and negotiation; motivational skills that promote creativity and innovation at every academic level; an ongoing interest in and involvement with relevant local, regional and national professional organizations. Experience in developing and managing the operational and capital budget.

Broad-based knowledge of college- related regulatory compliance requirements. Knowledge of pertinent federal and state regulations/laws as they pertain to health care and nursing education. Knowledgeable of governing documents and policies of the organization. Understands the general principles of utilization management, performance improvement, and peer review.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM OPTIONS:

St. Joseph's College of Nursing offers both Weekday and Evening/Weekend options leading to an associate in applied science degree with a major in nursing. The Dual Degree Partnership in Nursing (DDPN) with Le Moyne College allows students to achieve both an associate and a baccalaureate degree in four years. The Accelerated Dual Degree Partnership in Nursing (A-DDPN) option in conjunction with Le Moyne College allows students who already have a bachelor’s degree in another field to earn both an associate degree and bachelor’s degree in 18 months.
