SUNY Upstate Medical University Assistant Vice President for Development-Golisano Children's Hospital in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

The Assistant Vice President for Development-Golisano Children’s Hospital (AVP) reports to the Vice President for Development and is part of the senior management team for The Upstate Foundation, Inc.

The AVP will lead a 3-member front line fundraising team, with an administrative assistant. The AVP works collaboratively to develop, implement, and achieve strategic plans for increasing private support for all of the components of Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital (GCH).

The AVP provides leadership and direction for major gifts, corporate and foundation gifts, planned giving, annual giving, and donor relations for GCH; is directly involved in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of gifts; effectively communicates the mission and values of the Upstate Foundation; has a working knowledge of current best practices in all aspects of fund raising; and collaborates with colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related Field.

  • A minimum of 5 years working in a professional fundraising capacity, including program planning, professional staff management, and personal solicitation with a history of success, goal-achievement, and increased responsibilities.

  • An excellent track record of managing, inspiring, leading and directing large and complex staff including frontline fundraisers as well as managers and other staff with an emphasis on building a strong and collaborative team effort.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, analytical and planning skills, a high degree of professionalism and a sensitivity to long-term relationship building and stewardship.

  • Proven success in cultivating, soliciting and closing major gifts.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and successfully in a fast-paced environment with professionalism and a sense of humor.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle to make off campus donor/prospect visits and attend events.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in related field.

  • At least 10 years working in a professional fundraising capacity is preferred.

  • Preference given to candidate with experience in an academic health care setting.

    Work Days:

Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Must be available to work events held beyond the daily scheduled hours.
