Operations is at the heart of everything Amazon does, and automation is one of the ways we optimise our processes. The Amazon Reliability Maintenance and Engineering team keeps all our equipment in excellent working order, from printers to fully automated sortation systems.

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you’ll make sure that our automated systems are working at their best so that our customers get their orders on time. By exploring data on everything from control systems to sensors, you’ll maximise the availability of equipment at your sites. This role puts you at the forefront of Amazon’s emerging technology to solve complex productivity challenges.

Key job responsibilities

  • Being the subject matter expert within an Engineering team and collaborating closely with business teams to resolve complex problems

  • Development of code on different platforms

  • Solving complex issues across Controls, Industrial networks and IT Platforms, while analyzing metrics and leveraging them for process optimisation

  • Running and leading FC and regional controls projects, driving and developing standards and processes as part of a regional initiative

  • Acting as a point of technical reference and escalation for FC Controls engineers, Engineering teams, Operational teams and other business stakeholders, within an FC, Hub of FC’s or Region

  • Identifying and address skill and knowledge gaps within controls teams

A day in the life

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will be looking after the automated systems within our Fulfilment Centres (FCs), helping with fault finding, leading process improvements and will be involved in the qualification, installation and commissioning of new equipment.

Besides your day-to-day activities, you will be involved in domestic and regional projects. You will be a key part of a highly skilled team, thrive in delivering high-quality results and always be on the lookout for improvements.

The CF team are the first people in the chain that helps customers get products at the speed we’re known for. We’re based in Fulfilment Centres, which are at the heart of Amazon’s fast-paced Operations network. Our Centres are sometimes referred to as the ‘First Mile’ because it’s where most Amazon packages start their journey. We help to manage dynamic inventory and facilitate speedy deliveries round the clock.

Lots of different people work in our Fulfilment Centres, so there are plenty of opportunities for every skillset. Some of us work with physical products, while others analyse data to help everyone across the business make smart decisions.

Basic Qualifications

  • PLC programming and implementation experience with one of the following: Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley, Modicon, Mitsubishi

  • Experience with Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems

  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, CC-Link, AS-i, Profinet)

  • Familiarity with ABB or/and Fanuc robots

  • Completed Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or equivalent

  • Project management, organization and problem-solving skills (5W, Fishbone etc.)

  • Advanced proficiency in written and verbal in Polish and upper intermediate proficiency in written and verbal English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed Master’s Degree in Engineering, or equivalent

  • Experience with SQL, Linux, Cloud Technology and IP Networking

  • Knowledge of one of programming languages such as Python, JS, C, C+- Understanding of industrial safety standards (e.g. ISO 13849 and IEC 62061 standards)

  • Experience in a multi-site environment
