       License and Certification Qualifications: Licensed through the Board of Nursing in Georgia as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.

Education Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited school or college of nursing.

Experience Qualifications: Three years nursing experience required. Pediatric experience preferred.

Skills Qualifications: Effective critical thinking skills requiring competency in nursing process, problem solving, and decision-making; ability to provide specialized health-related services on a direct/indirect basis; ability to communicate effectively with the public, students, parents, physicians, and staff; and the ability to work successfully with colleagues.

Primary Responsibilities: Provide direct patient care to a student who has been determined medically fragile and is in need of a continuum of nursing support in order to participate in a school setting.1. Perform appropriatemedical procedures in compliance with the "Georgia Registered ProfessionalNurse Practice Act" that are prescribed by physician/health care provider'sorders.

  1. Assess and document student's physical andpsycho-social status appropriate to the age of the student served.

  2. Document from a plan of care for the continuumof services, utilizing appropriate standards of care, resources, and disciplines,in collaboration with the Direct Care Nurse Facilitator.

  3. Implement and coordinate the plan of care,making appropriate revisions in response to changing needs and situations.

  4. Evaluate and document student's responseto interventions and make appropriate revisions to meet desired outcomes.

  5. Communicate effectively with student, family,school personnel, other disciplines, and the Direct Care Nurse Facilitatorin facilitating the plan of care.

  6. Conduct and document appropriate healthteaching to student and/or family.

  7. Complete student's specific skill competencyrequirements.

  8. Complete all orientation activities andserve as a mentor to a newly hired or substitute Direct Care Nurse.

  9. Follow the policies and procedures forGwinnett County Public Schools.

  10. Perform other duties as assigned.Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, negotiate stairs, climb ladders, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear, manipulate tools and small items with hands, and lift and transport up to 50 pounds over short distances. The employee is required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of duties. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision. The employee may be subjected to a wide range of ambient temperature and humidity conditions while working on equipment under varying conditions including overhead work and work in confined spaces. Potential hazards of this position include working with electricity, working with heat and noise producing machinery and equipment, working on elevated equipment using ladders or other lifting devices, and use of chemicals and solvents.
